Good morning. Just to note, one of the doctors said that a study was done on long term use of Metronidazole on cats. The results were not favorable. Somehow the intestinal DNA was altered but when the medication was stopped, all returned to normal. The study was done for cats not dogs. However, apparently there is no real scientific evidence that long term use of Metronidazole (Flagil is the same medication only a different name) in dogs is harmful. The dose will be reduced and Emma will have to be wached. I will find out for sure when I bring her home. Waiting for a phone call from Tufts. Thank you so much for your prayes for Emma and baby Chase. The next few days are critical for Chase. I will give Emma a kiss from everyone on this forum who have been so kind and helpful since this whole process began. |
Just seeing your post for the first time. I am so happy to hear Emma Angel is doing better. It's so hard when these little ones are sick. Prayers that she continues to improve and is back to her happy self very soon! Prayers also for Chase Aaron. My youngest son was also born at what we thought was his due date, but later found he was 3 weeks early. He weighed 7lbs 11oz but also suffered severe respiratory issues. It was scary, but he is now a healthy, happy 26 year old who brings me great joy. Medical treatment has done nothing but improve vastly since then, so hoping Chase Aaron will soon be home and causing all sorts of oohs and ahhs. |
Thank you for your kind words. I just now heard from my sister (grandmother). Chase does have pneumonia but it has not spread. They are monitoring his breathing and giving him medication for the pneumonia and meds to help clear his lungs. I will keep you posted about Emma. She is such a little lover. Big sister yorkie--age 5, Zofia ( Polish for Sophia) , came with us to visit her last night. She has come just about every time we have gone there. As she has become fairly comfortable with the enviornment there, the two were able to relax and play a bit. I think that Emma is always happy when we bring her with us. They are like two peas in a pod. :) DAB |
Emma Angel update Emma has been home for 2 days. She is doing much better now that she is back on the Medtronidazole. I have to give her .06 ML instead of the 1 ML she had been receiving before we took her off one month after her LS surgery per the surgeon's recommendation. She is as peppy as ever. Thank you for your continued good thoughts and prayers. I guesss she will be on the medication for a while. I am so relieved that she is her old self again. Baby Chase is receiving good care in the ICU unit-----my neice had a chance to hold him yesterday. :) |

Emma is doing well----she has bounced back as is her cute little self again. Baby Chase is finally home-----just need to keep a close watch on him. Thanks so much for all your good thoughts and prayers. DAB |
Tylan powder---I will ask the internist and my vet about it. Thank you very much. I had no idea that the metronidazole has to be formulated for toy breeds---none of the doctors said anything about that. DAB |

My friend's dog was really sick - diarhea all the time and she has her on this and her dog is doing great and has been able to ween back to only a couple times a week. It helps with large intestinal issues which is what is going on with yours. Small intestinal issues is more vomitting than diarrhea |
Tylosin here is the info on it to talk to vet about - they are already compounding the metronidazole is my guess |
