Sammy UPDATE... As I said earlier, it felt a bit like Hospice around here yesterday and in the evening I'm sure our neighbors must have been wondering what kind of gathering was going on at my house with all the cars. All five of my children came home with their families to say their good byes to Miss Sammy...even my one daughter who's not a "dog person" felt the need, too. The neighbors must have really been thinking it might've been one of us who's dying when a doctor arrived, too...lol...it was just my friend who knows & loves my son. She's not even a "dog person" either and she said she just had to come to see Sammy! Amazingly, Miss Sammy actually wanted to be right in the mix of things last night and although a little wobbly on her feet at times she did attempt to greet (or say her own goodbyes) to each of us. During the night, she seemed to be fading but, at the same time just not ready to leave us yet. Her breathing has become a bit more labored and her eyes are just so forlorn. An odd thing also occurred last night...her vaginal (labia) area started to become stiff. I checked with my pal the Internist (since it was so late in the evening to call our Vet) and she suspects the body is preserving where the blood flow is going at this point. Even though there was a point during the night that my son felt we might be losing Sammy, she was still here with us when we awoke. She is less this morning than she was physically yesterday. Today, she's not just wobbly on her feet but, her legs are having more difficulty to even support a standing position. For my son, Mike...this lil' Beagle has been like a child to him and I think that's what has been so devastating for all of us to watch him go through. At one point last night, I noticed Miss Sammy's leather collar & tags wrapped around his wrist. Just wanting to hear that Sammy jingle-jangle of her tags as she used to romp thru the house...I don't know. Will keep updating as we continue on this journey with Miss Sammy...thanks to those who've been listening & for the prayers! Hugs to you all:love-hug3 |
I lit a candle for Sammy and pray that whatever happens is best for her... Please light a candle for Sammy |

How is Sammy? I am still praying for that miracle. |
I just read about Sammy. My heart goes out to her. It sounds like she is really trying to hang on.n Tell her that we are praying for her and my Max is keeping watch. |
Did your vet happen to try Epogen injections? They can sometimes be a life-saver for anemic animals-- the cat who lives at my workplace has hemolytic anemia, and we've nearly lost her a few times only to have the Epo bring her back from the brink. Keeping you and your doggies in my thoughts. |
Sammy UPDATE... Sorry for not updating sooner...my oldest daughter & her kiddies had been in town for our planned vacation when all of this happened with Sammy so, I stole away with them for a couple days to Sea World in San Diego. My son kept me apprised of Sammy's condition while we were away. As much as I hate to get our hopes up without seeing a follow up lab report for Sammy...I almost think I see a slight tiche of the palest of pinks in her gums & the quick of her toe nails, too. I'm also afraid that my eyes are fooling me so, we'll wait till her next appointment on the 30th to see what her blood counts are then. Here's what I do know for sure...Sammy's appetite is improving. My son is feeding her DogSure, boiled chicken & a few of her kibbles. She seems to prefer to just graze but, grazing is eating...so, that is good. Her weight actually went from 19.8 lbs. to 21.4 lbs, too. She's drinking fluids, lot's of water & DogSure in between meals. She's doing her regular potty business like before. At first, she lay just in my son's bed and could barely lift her head up off of his comforter but, now she travels (still wobbly) on her own from his bed to lay beneath my chair in my office where she will rest for hours. My son even carried Sammy to her park where she's used to running around on walks and let her just lay there in the grass to smell her old stomping grounds and feel the wind blow through her coat. He said he hoped that old familiar places might trigger a will to live or if nothing else, she could relive some good memories of days gone by. So, for her appetite, weight gain & increased interest in her regular routines...I'm just going to say it...she's doing better! If not for all the Sammy prayers & her candles lit for her recovery...I wouldn't have believed my eyes! So, thank you to ALL who've sent prayers or positive thoughts Sammy's way...we  you! Will continue Sammy's updates... |
Thank you so much for the update. I was getting worried that she had taken a turn for the worse. It sounds like your son is doing a wonderful job nursing her. I pray that she will continue to strengthen. |
Thanks for the update. I sure hope that Sammy continues to improve. Give her hugs for us. |
