Anyone's baby NOT get better from LP surgery? Baby has LPs like many Yorkies. I'm still debating on whether to have surgery. I have a consult this Thursday. Vet said grade 4, I say grade 2. Anyway, can you tell me how your baby is now after surgery? Was anyone's NOT a success? Thanks! :aimeeyork |
Roxy had both legs done at the same time. During surgery, based on the Ortho Surgeon's experience and due to Roxy's legs having a slight curvature, she felt Roxy would do well by just deepening the groves, and tighten up the ligaments. At the 6 week check up, her right leg was luxating again. She had surgery again, this time the surgeon did the cut and pin LP that she was planning on doing at the first surgery. About 6 months later, her left leg started to luxate again. We were going to fix that one too, but she had a staph infection that we couldn't get rid of and we had just found out she has liver issues (MVD). So I put it off. I am giving her Cosiqun every day and she is doing well. I don't know if I am going to fix the other one or not, putting her under bc of her MVD scares me so much :( IF she has to have surgery, my advice is a Board Cert. Ortho Specialist AND the cut/pin type of LP surgery ;) |

When the surgeon checked her, she didn't say what Grade that leg was, but she said yes it is luxating again, so I imagine it being at least Grade 2. But so far, Roxy is fine. Before the first surgery, Roxy would skip when she walked/pranced around. I thought it was cute, but that was the LP. Then we started to hear/feel clicking when we would pick her up and carry her close to our body. Then she started to limp and carry the leg often, so that's when we knew it was time for surgery. She is so much better now that she had surgery, I can totally tell that she truly needed it ;) |
Sadie's stitches came out this morning (2 weeks post surgery today) and the ortho surgeon says the knees feel good so far. She had both knees done grooves and pins in both. He wants her in a crate for 4 more weeks then he will check her again. She seems to feel great-it has just been difficult keeping her calm and in a crate. I would highly recommend having a board certified ortho surgeon perform the surgery if surgery is what you decide. Ours came highly recommended and is very open and honest and explained everything thoroughly to me. Good Luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the surgery and/or the recovery. |
