White crust on nails? A few days ago I noticed some white crusty looking stuff on one of Kya's front nails, and I thought I'd give it a couple of days to see if she had just gotten into something, but now it's spread to three different nails. I've googled it with no results. Is this normal or could it be some kind of fungus or disease? She's a little over 6 months old. Thanks! |
No not normal. Sounds like nail fungus. I would probably have the vet make sure that is what it is and see what he recommends. There are products to help. Do you have him on a high quality dog food? Helps the immune system. Make sure he doesn't sit around with wet nails. Sometimes if they lick them a lot it will keep them too moist and fungus can grow. |
Ok thanks! I've had her on Wellness dog food, I've heard it's very high quality. She recently got a new bone, rawhide, and I was wondering if it's just that getting on her nails, because I just picked at it and it flaked off. Has anyone ever heard of that happening? I'm going to call the vet in the morning, either way. |
Hi. Does your pup have any similar flakes on the edges of her ears, and is she licking her feet? ...any flaking around other parts of her feet? Is she itchy or scratching alot? Yorkies are susceptable to Sarcoptic mange and it can start out on their feet. The mites may not show up on a skin scraping done by your vet, but can easily be treated and/or ruled out by using Revolution Heatworm Preventative. We went through a lot of meds, tests, time and money before the final diagnosis was made. What did your vet find? |
Thanks for all the great info! It's all gone away now, and she's had no flaking anywhere else. I'm pretty certain it was from her bone, I'm just an overprotectice mama! |
