Redness near genital area Hello, We have been using baby wipes to first wipe to genital area than the paws of our 9 week old female. Per vet's recommendation we have been using alcohol free, hypoallergenic baby wipes but I'm seeing redness on either side of her genital area. Should I stop the wipes all together and is there anything I can apply to this area to help with the redness? Photo: MobileMe Gallery Thank you, |
Welcome to YT! Why are you using baby wipes? I am only going to take a guess at this but, I think you should call your vet back,......I would say your pup is having some sort of a reaction to the wipes. I know there is scent in some of them. If you just want her clean I would just take an old face cloth or a paper towel and wash her with that. JMO though...like I said,...I would call your vet. |

Sounds like good advice to me. |
Yep...I'm pretty much with the rest. It's probably the baby wipes you are using. I use a warm wash rag when I wipe "back there" during her daily groom and if I use any wipes, I use the Puppy wipes. Not baby wipes. The PH level of their skin is different from ours. which is why it is also recommended not to use people shampoo to bath them. Some on here do though and have absolutely no troubles. Your furbaby may be one of those that doesn't do well with people grooming products. Call the Vet, see if there is a cream you can apply. Often our dogs can have our over the counter meds like benedryl, pepto bismol, and hydrocortisone creams. But always, always, always call the Vet first for proper product and dosage. |
I believe sometimes there can be too much human interference, and most females keep themselves clean. The product your using could even have some type of oil in it that she would then want to lick off, meaning way too much licking, and irritation could develop. |
