Something on Layla's paw :(
 
I did Layla's nails two nights ago and her paws were fine. Tonight I did them again and the last pad (on the left paw, the pad furthest to the right) has what looks like a swollen area/bump/small lump. I shaved the fur down so I could look at it- it's a bit red- might be from my poking. It looks like it is filled with some kind of liquid almost- it is squishy- not hard and looks like it is just an extension of her pad- as opposed to being something growing out from it. It doesn't bother her at all when i poke and pinch at it.

Well as you can imagine i'm sick over it. We are going to call the vet tomorrow and HOPEFULLY get in - i dont' want to wait all weekend. Anyone have ANY idea what it could be?

I had a yorkie and a pom that both would get cysts between their toes. Sometimes they went away on there own, sometimes the vet would give me something for them. Has she been licking her paws? Hopefully it is something minor. Keep us posted.

that's the word i was looking for- it's like a cyst. I hope it is this too. She is not licking at all- she doesn't even seem to notice it is there. I'm sure I am getting worked up for nothing- I tend to do that.. lol... I just hope I can get in tomorrow.

I know how that goes, I am a wreck until I an get them to a vet when something is wrong. I will keep her in my prayers.

THanks Patti. I got in today- love our vet. She said it could be 1 of 3 things. A non-cancerous growth that may or may not go away on its own. It could be something from the paploma family and be a type of wart or it could be a staph infection caused by an ingrown hair. So i'm just supposed to keep an eye on it- if Layla starts licking it or it does not go away- it will have to be taken off to prevent infection.

Look at my profile page, in my photo albums, TJ had a growth on his paw and I have photos of it there.

We had it removed. It was a mass and it was biopsied. It turned out to be benign. :)

I remember that thread. I was a nervous wreck for you waiting for his results.

Layla's does not look like that- it looks like part of her paw is kinda swollen- it is perfectly smooth- I'm REALLY hoping it just goes away- she does not do well after anesthetic!

It does seem like a cyst to me. I am glad she is not in any pain. I have a small one on my eye right now. It is slowly going away. It is best to leave it alone and let it go away on it's own, however, take her to the vet, to see what is the best treatmenet. especally sense it's on her paw and she has to place pressure on it. keep us posted.

Alfie had a little growth that suddenly appeared on his pad , we had it aspirated to check it out and it turned out to be something called a Histio cytoma, which the vet said was a benign growth and it would clear up in a couple of weeks!!
Amazingly it did :D

yes that is what she called it- i knew i would NEVER remember that name! she said that was a possibilty of what it was.

Thanks everyone :) turns out it DID go away on its own- $66 dollars later (Cna't put a price on peace of mind i guess!) the vet was right (imagine that :) ) and it was a non cancerous growth that dogs over the age of 3 are prone to get and they come and go on their own.

My Staffordshire Bull Terrier had one of these on his ear a few years back...I was terrified it would be a cancerous lump...unfortunatley he did end up with a cancerous lump a couple of years later on his chest..luckily i spotted it early and he fully recovered. I know its such a worry when you find lumps and bumps...you always think the worst.

I'm so glad it turned out to be the same as Alfies...but it is such a worry , it's amazing when it just starts to disapear soon you wont even know where it was.:animal-pa
