Confused About Lily - Worms? Hi All! This morining when I took Lily out for a walk she did her normal thing poop and pee. When we came back in I noticed her scratching her front leg/chest area and I noticed there was a 2 inch long worm - purpley brownish in color and about the width of spaggeti on her. I immediatly took it off and looked for others (there werent) but now I am worried. Could she have worms? I googled it and cant quite figure it out - it didnt look like a tapeworm or heartworm. She also just went to the vet a week ago and is due for her flea and tick meds this week (gave it to her last month). Everything else is normal - is it possible I worm just crawled on her on our walk? I live in NYC so she wasnt on grass - just pavement. She is my little baby and I care about her so much so I am not sure if I am over reacting! Any help to what this might be would be great! |
Hi there! I don't mean to sound silly, but it sounds as if you are describing a good old fashioned ground worm. Although a little smaller, perhaps it is a baby? Anyway, New York along with Pennsylvania has received 20 days of rain out of the last 23 days. Here in Pa. where I live in a more rural area when it rains a lot, the ground worms come out of the ground and will lay all over my driveway. They don't stay in the grass. Excessive rain will bring them out of the ground. The Robins love it! If her coat is even the tiniest bit long, she probably scooped it up and piggy backed it into your house. Sophie did this last week with a bunch of ants. I kept seeing ants all over my kitchen floor until I realized about 5 min. after we came in from our outside potty break (it was 5:00 AM and dark outside) that she must have sniffed out an ant nest. They were all in her muzzle and her legs. I had to immediately drop her in the sink and give her a bath. And even then, it took till the blow drying portion to get them all to drop off! Unless someone else has a better idea, I'd just keep an eye on it. But google earthworm and see if it looks the same. |

I agree with KJLive... if your little one had worms I believe they would be beige in color. |
