shivers and diarrhea? since teddy got his haircut (or should i say SHAVE)..he shivers...and naturally youd think, hes cold he has a lot less hair to keep him warm....but sometimes hell do it when i know he isnt cold....and hes had diarhhea for the past week...all over my room and the house!! more frequently than previous bowel movements....any thoughts? like any puppy he licks EVERYTHING...eats things....greenies? i dont know! help!! |
It could be so many things...If it does not clear up I would suggest a trip to the vet...maybe some of the other members have some other advice. :) |
I would think if he's had diarhhea for the past week he might need a vet check. That isn't normal. |
If you are feeding him greenies, I would stop them and see if the problem clears up, but he does need a trip to the vet. Is he getting sufficient water so he doesn't become dehydrated? |
He could have colitis and many times they need meds to get their little systems back in working order. I would also be very careful about giving him any treats other than his dog food. Make sure he is drinking water so he doesn't become dehydrated! My vet highly recommends peopto bismol , but you should probably check with your vet before trying that. |
Oh no i'm so scared for you. I hope it's nothing serious. Please take him to the vet a.s.a.p if you have symptoms of diarhhea. It could just be an upset tummy but could also be something deadly like Parvo. |
Also, if your dog doesnt want to drink ...try putting a little drop of gatorade or something w/ a little flavor like juice in his water will help him drink it better. This is what my vet told me to do when my Kelsey was a little sick. :) |
If he shivers a lot, consider getting an electric heating blanket for him. Yoda loves his, and will lay on it when he's cold (we mainly use it during winter and early spring), then when he gets too hot, he'll find another place to lay on. Good luck with Teddy's diarrhea, if he's been having it for a week, a vet visit might be in order. |
Our puppy has been doing the same thing. Diarrhea for the past 3 weeks. We have been to the vet and had all the tests done and they think it is his food so we are getting him on Medi-Cal which the vet recommended and are being careful about treats and all other food he might get into. Bentley also shakes ALOT. Sometimes when he is just laying around in the warm house but mostly when he is in the car ride, even just laying on one of our laps. Not really sure why, but you aren't alone. |
i made him an appt for friday...my boyfriend said he heard somewhere that cottage cheese was supposed to firm the stool....any thoughts? and the electric blanket sounds like a good idea, but wouldnt they chew on the cord or something? thats all im worried about with that.. |
a tablespoon of pure pumpkin can cure diarrhea, but since your little one has had it for a week I would have his stool looked at by your vet... sometimes too many treats or greenies can cause diarrhea make sure you limit the treats to keep a solid healthy stool. use a heat pad for warmth on one side of his bed (wrapping it in a baby blanket and set only on low) hope this helps |
