Discharge from Penis
 
I found Davey about 3 weeks ago and we're doing great together. Since day one I noticed that the pink part of his penis is out a lot. Sometimes it is out when he is really excited, other times it is out when he is just lounging around.

I was grooming him the other night and noticed that there was some green moucous-like discharge at the tip of his penis. I cleaned him up but the next day I noticed more and his penis fur had some crust on it, like some of it had dried.

His overall health seems fine, so I am not sure if anything is wrong.

Has anyone else noticed this in their dogs? Please help:confused:

Hi, what do you mean you found him? Have you tried to find his owner? I'm wondering if he got lost because he smelled a female dog in heat. The discharge could indicate a sexually transmitted disease. I do think you should take him to the vet immediately, get him checked out, and do everything in you power to find the original owner. I know this is hard to do since you are growing attached to him, but I can tell you this dog belongs to someone.

I posted about it on here somewhere...its a long story. I found him on Memorial Day weekend and have done everything in my power to find the owner...everything. So either I take him in or I take him to a shelter, and the shelters in Los Angeles are brutal.

An STD? I didn't know dogs could get STDs. This is awful...

I had a dog that had an infection and his sheath was REALLY dirty. The vet cleaned it (flushed it they called it) and gave him a shot and he was good to go. I dont know about STD's, but I do know that the boys have to stay clean. There is no telling how long he was out before you found him and he could have gotten an infection. Let us know. :confused:

Nancy, yes she did post about this. We all tried to help locate the owner. Many members were posting all lost Yorkies from that area. Sadly, many came to the conclusion that the baby may have been dumped.
This poster has done a lot for this baby so far. :)

It is probably smegma. Smegma is the normal sloughing of cells and accumulation of debris and it's normal. The color best described is a yellowy/green...if it's a darker green you may want to rule out an infection.

Thanks for informing me of this, I hope I didn't sound too harsh, but I know I would go nuts if I lost Joey. One of the first things you should also do is get a through vet check, just like you were bringing home a new puppy.

I don't really know that much about STD's I've read a little on the breeding forum, I just know dogs are more likely to get lost if they are looking for dogs in heat. Is he intact? Has he had a vet check yet? I agree with you about shelters, when I lived in CA. they did allow you to call and leave a description and your phone number of a dog you found. I didn't mean to imply you haven't done your best with this, I'm sorry. Best of luck with this.

I think my aunt had the same problem with her male dog. It was a greenish discharge that came out and crusted up. I don't think it was anything serious. We just had to put him to sleep a couple of weeks ago so I'll try to get a hold of her and see if she remembers what it was but I would reccommend having a vet look at it just to rule out anything serious... :) Good luck and keep us posted!
