UCKY!!!! I found them in her POOP!!! Little white rice like grains ... with gloves on (nursing student ... so curious) I mushed threw the poop and noticed that they were MOVING!!! :eek::eek::eek: AHHHHHH!!!!! I was so disgusted I immediately flushed that "crap" :cool: away!! I should of taken a picture to take to the vet with me. Well tomorrow is Sunday. Will she be ok until Monday?

Of course I freaked myself out even more by looking at pictures online. CRAP this SUCKS!!!

Doesnt sound like a tapeworm they are a real long flat worm, but there are several different kinds of worms. I would definately take her to the vet along with a stool sample.

Tapeworms break off into segments and look like grains of rice. It sounds like tapeworms to me

I don't want to go to work tonight! I'm soo worried. But she is acting energetic and its 730 in the morning. I gave her dewormer as soon as I saw it... then I read that dewormer isn't going to do crap for her (it was the dewormer the vet gave me). I took pictures of one of the segments I found this morning.

Now she puked. Puked up water (versace does that when he drinks too much too fast) but could this be getting worse? I'm going to try to get tomorrow off so I can watch her all day. I am so worried. I've never had this happen with any of my pets.

Don't panic. You can get a pill that will kill the tapeworm from your vet tomorrow.

Are you using a topical flea preventative? Dogs get tapeworms from fleas.

yep just tell them you need something for tapeworms and something to get rid of the fleas also so no more tapeworms the get the tapes from eating the fleas they are yucky

Yup, a tape. Different meds for tape. Some are a one pill and others, 3 days. She'll be ok till tomorrow.

I have to say I LOVE this website! where else can you find a picture of dog poop with a worm that helps you identify what kind of worm your dog has???

I found a worm on Beckett's poop this morning and have been freaking out all day- so gross. Is it round, tape, etc.

We have an appt with the vet tomorrow, and now I feel sooo much better. You guys are the best!

I'd say you shouldn't be able to SEE :eek: roundworms in the poop. If they are white it is 95% of the time tapeworms. A holistic remedy is FOOD GRADE diatamacious earth ... MUST MUST MUST BE FOOD GRADE. One teaspoon for our small dogs mixed with some wet food (I'd say 3 tspn wet to 1 tsp diatamacious) for 7 days. It is AMAZING!!!!! But if you want to put chemicals in her/him, get Iverhart Max, it will cover her/him for heartworms TOO. A monthly dose and you are good! I used both. I of COURSE asked my vet first and he said the added DE wouldn't hurt but that the Iverhart would definitely work.

i just bought lily fri morning and i saw worms that night and took her to the vet it was tape worm, so i wanted to treat stewie and lulu because new puppy alot of bum sniffing, 1 pill covered all 3 but the vet gave me 4 and said one pill once a month for four months, incase there were more tape worms around the yard and house from her. I took the poo with me cause i thought it was round worm , but it ended up tape so glad i took it , for the 4 pills and examination of poo $48. I guess you can also get tape worm if they played with a dead mouse or something as well, or swallowing a flea, i agree worms are gross that was my first time in all the puppies i have owned.

My poodles chased and caught a rabbit. Needless to say, rabbit=fleas=tapeworm! I did not know this at the time and it took a few months before I notice they had anything in their poo. I had 10 poodles at the time, I had to treat all of them, yuck! Now I don't allow them to go after the wildlife in the area!

you're lucky, my first experience w/one was about 30yrs ago. I saw what looked like a piece of fuzz the size of a grain of rice stuck to the top of my cats hind leg. Picked it off with my finger...hmmm, it was damp...hmmm, it moved...hmmm...CRAP IT WAS A WORM!!!! LOL

flea has tape worm eggs, dog eats flea, flea goes in dog, eggs hatch, makes worm. Worm makes segments full of eggs that snap off like grains of rice and crawl out their little butts and drop off, dry up and wait for flea to eat, dog eats flea, on and on....

usually the vet only has to give 'em one pill. it causes the worm's head to detach from the intestine, die and expell completely from the host (dog) and go away.

at least you were able to get your gloves...I was blindsided!!!
