I'd have it warmed up and ready, set on low is safest. How is she acting? I know your vet said not to feed her, but if you have nutrical or Karo surup a little wouldn't hurt along with some water if she'll take it ( small amounts at a time) She's only 4 pounds? Surgery was how long ago?

See if you can get some nutri-cal or kayo syrup in her and a .small amt of food. She's so tiny and you don't need a hypoglycemic eppisode on top of it all

Yes, put her on the heating pad now. Normal values are:
Temp= 101.5 - 102.5
Respiration= 10-30 breaths per minute at rest
Pulse=70-120 beats per minute at rest
Capillary refill time= Less than 2 seconds

If she is unable to lick Nutrical or syrup off your finger, okay to smear a bit on her gums. Her gums can absorb it.

She should be steadily moving toward waking up more and sleeping less. If she isn't, or her breathing slows to much, stimulate her by trying to wake her, petting her gently, gentle massage to increase circulation (helps to move anesthesia out of her system) (do her back, legs, chest, shoulders)

OMGosh, this whole time I've been making sure she is quiet and in her bed. I don't think I have any Karo or Nutrical on hand would somthing else work? I have covered her with a super warm blanket and she is very alert when she gets up to potty but has only had one drink of water since she got home at 4 p.m. today. She had her surgery at about 11 a.m. today, well it's really yesterday now since it's 1 in the morning now. I'm scared to encourage her to move around a lot.

Oh, and yes my little lady is only 4 lbs 2 oz. and usually very spunky and puppy like.

I know what the vet said , but the dog usually knows best offer her a small amt of food. Do you have maple surup? rub a small amt on her gums. But still offer food . That not feeding thing varies from vet to vet its just preferance

Not so much moving around, but when she lifts her head to look at you, is her head steady or a bit wobbly? Mainly you want her conscious. Don't let her go into a sound sleep with the anesthesia in her system.

If you have her on a heating pad, only use a very light blanket on top and keep checking her temp to be sure she doesn't overheat. Warm is better than cold though.

Pancake syrup or even plain sugar as a last resort, mix in warm water to get it to disolve and apply with your finger to her gums if she can't lick it.

Bland food like chicken baby food would be best, or use a blender to make it easier to digest, no grease, fat, spicy food or twinkies! Small amounts at a time... see if she'll take a bit more water..

I'm really sorry if I have upset you. I have 20 years experience as a Vet Tech/Surgery Tech. I am just trying to let you know everything that you can do to help your pup recover. I am basically telling you everything I would do at work or at home for my own dog in the same situation. Many would pull through without it. Yorkies are genetically sensitive to anesthesia. If they survive the surgery, they still have to get through recovery, and process the anesthesia out of their bodies. Many times they will go to sleep so soundly with the anesthesia still in their system, they just keep going deeper and deeper and can go into a coma and not come out of it. By waking them up, you interupt that process. Until the anesthesia is out of their system, I personally would not let my dog rest for too long of a time. Again, I am sorry if I scared you. That was not my intent.

Sorry it has taken so long to post an update. KJC you are so considerate, you didn't scare me. I really appreciate all your advice. I truly appreciate everyone who has helped, I have definitely felt like I am not going through this tuff time alone. In the wee hours this morning I set my alarm to go off every thirty minutes so I could wake Geita up and take her outside for a few minutes. She would walk a few steps and then come right back to me to pick her up. But I figured this would at least get her blood flowing a little. I put the heating pad in bed with us, but everytime I would wake up she would be snugged up next to my chest, or curled up around the side of my husband's face,lol. We went to the vet again this morning for a check up and they said her vitals were good. When we got home she ate a half a jar of Chicken baby food. Then for lunch a made her a small steak, and she ate a little less than half of that. She isn't drinking as much water as I would like to see her drinking so I have been giving her 10 cc's of pedialyte every hour. I just laid her on her back on the couch so I could sit down and post an update and to my surprise I looked over just in time to see her praying paws begging for me to rub her belly (which is usually what she does anytime we are sitting or laying anywhere,lol) So now I can say with confidence my little Geita Lupita is feeling much better. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone's help and concern! I just took a picture of my little midget sprawled out waiting for some more rubs, as soon as I can figure out how to post it on here I will.

hmmmm....she might have an infection somwhere you should take her to the vet. i know how it feels to have a sick precious little one and its not the best feeling at all...hope you post up good news about her soon::getwellso:

OMGosh!!! She's absolutely adorable!!! What a cutie pie! I was praying all night for her. She really looks great for all she's been through! Her incision looks fine. No baths until the stitches are out. Maybe use a doggy bath wipe? Give her plenty of hugs and kisses from us!!!! Oh, and no Twinkies or steaks...at least until her systems return to normal. Bland food will be so much easier for her to digest, for now. A teaspoon of yogurt might be nice with her meals and will help restore the normal bacterial flora to her gut till she's off her antibiotics ...mine think it's ice cream! Good Luck and send me a pic and update whenever you get a chance! We'd love to here more about her and her new life with the best Mommy in the World!!!!

I can definitely attest to that with my Yorkie:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyorkgirls...they definitely LOVE their own kind, too!

You should see when a new Yorkie-Rescue arrives in our home...it's all pandemonium as the Welcome Committee (my girlies) encircles their new brother or sister...and then it's just a blur of Yorkie fur trotting off to & fro. :D

Awwww, that is so cute! Poor Geita only gets to play with other Yorkies when there happens to be one at Petsmart. Or when we visit my Aunt for the holidays and she gets to see her cousin Reily. We almost never get Yorkies into rescue here, which is a good thing I suppose. Geita was seized along with many others in a puppy mill raid last year. She had ear mites coupled with double ear infections, mange, conjuntivitis, URI, an infected mouth with teeth literally rotting out, and pattelar luxation in both back legs. Not to mention she was matted in the places she did have hair, and her little nails where curling under into her pads. However, when I first laid eyes on her it was love at first sight! So, I scooped up my little diamond in the ruff and haven't put her down since. I was quickly reminded of the hell she had been through in her previous years when she had her pyrometra surgery two days ago. The vet said she had never seen so much scar tissue from previous c-sections in her life. So you can imagine, this poor baby was bred over and over again knowing she was too small to birth the puppies naturally. The pain she had to go through nursing puppies probably every six months with sutures in her tiny belly. Ugh, it just makes me sick when I think about it! Anyway, Geita Lupita is feeling much better today. Although she is still sore, she is eating, drinking, and giving loads of sugars:p! I swear I fall more and more in love with her everyday. She never ceases to amaze me, she is a tiny warrior:aimeeyork.
