Reaction to Vaccines My poor Bella got her rabies and 2nd adult on Sat. She didn't feel good the rest of the day...which I expected she didn't eat. On Sun. she didn't eat...maybe a couple of treats. I thought she was being picky because we have a hard time finding food she likes. Well Mon. morning she wouldn't eat. My husband called me at work and said she ate some grass and started vomiting so he took her to the vet. They said she had a reaction to the vaccines gave her a shot and she ate for them. They also put her on prednisone. Is this common? I have had dogs all my life and I even worked in a vet for awhile. I have never seen this. She still isn't herself. Still having a hard time getting her to eat. Any advice would be great. Thanks  |
They typically say that a vaccine reaction will occur after 30 min after getting the vaccine. I would make sure they pre-medicate your baby the next time she gets shots. It is common, and i'm sure your baby will be fine next time if they pre-medicate! |
In the future never give two vaccinations at the same time. |

herself. I stopped giving her the predisone. It seemed to make her mean. She growl at my brother. Tried to bite my mom. It seems to make her mean. I don't what is wrong. She isn't playing as much or eating. She just isn't the same little puppy. Not sure what to do. |
my dog is on temarilp and was on pred before and it can cause aggression but never saw it in my dog so not likely - she probably does not feel well is why she is acting out - vaccine reactions can happen up to 90 days after a vaccine and sometimes affect their immune system for life like my dee dee :( Next time when doing shots only rabies as i would titer for everything else in a small dog go to a holistic vet as they do not get the full dose of rabies like most vets and the rabies vaccine says for up to a 90lb dog and it says for healthy dogs only :( Also in small dogs do vaccines separately - here is some info on rabies vaccine |
http://www.rabieschallengefund.org/page4.html it says aggression can be from the rabies vaccine :( so i would tend to lean that way as opposed to pred as i have had my dog on steroids for a year and not that kind of aggression :( more info on side effects Adverse Reactions to Vaccinations in Dogs |
