yorkie vomiting and tired all day... unsure what to do?? My 8 month yorkie keeps vomiting what i believe is bile. Once early today, agian at aroung 10pm.... and now twice again. He's been acting really tired and sleeping most of the time today too. Do dogs get flus too? Any advice?? |
I think it would be a good idea to get him to he vet, how big is he, and look at his gums to make sure he is not getting dehydrated, these little ones can go downhill quickly. They can get a flu or just a stomach bug, have you changed any of his diet lately or could he have gotten into anything and yorkies can be predisposed to pancreatitis as well, good luck keep us posted |
Make sure he's been eating... you don't want him to go into sugar shock! |
He had chicken breast that i boiled earlier.... but has no appetite whats so ever now.l What should i look for with his gums?? |
He is 5 lbs..... I have a hard time feeding him as it is because he is finicky and gets bored quickly of one food after a coulpe of days eating it. |
his gums will be really dry |
Dogs can lose a significant amount of fluid from normal daily activities such as panting (dog's do not have sweat glands to keep them cool, so they pant), elimination, breathing, and simple evaporation through body surfaces. They can also lose water through not-so-normal conditions such as over-heating due to exposure to extreme heat, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Symptoms of a dehydrated dog include: sunken, dry eyes, and dry mouth, gums, and nose. The skin also loses elasticity. Another symptom is "delayed capillary refill time." Press your finger against your dog's gums until they turn white, then remove it. Your dog's gums should return to pink immediately. If it takes up to 3 seconds or more for the gums to regain their color, your dog is dehydrated. |
they do not look dry... but i have noticed him "licking" like when some ppl/animals wake in the morning or are tasting something. NOt sure if I gave a great example so you understand or not. But his gums seem moist not dry. |
he may be licking because he's vomiting, bless his heart! I'd not go too far from him and call your vet in the morning! |
interesting. My dog was like that just last weekend, and she's 8 months as well. On Friday, she started to vomit, and had diarrhea. My normally very hyper baby was just laying there. By Saturday, she was much better. She still wasn't eating much, but she no longer constantly vomited. We went to the vet and they gave her ID food and wanted her to eat that and only that for a few days. Today, I started to reintroduce her regular food back into her diet (by mixing it with the ID) and she got sick again. I have determined that maybe it's just her food that's making her sick, and I plan on trying to switch her to another brand. I guess the point it... maybe he will feel better on his own. Or maybe it's just something that he ate. I highly recommend taking him to get checked out if it continues, just to be sure. |
Check his gums as they should be pink. If they are white then his sugar level is low. Give him some Nutrical. Make sure he drinks water as those little guys get dehydrated very quickly. Boil some chicken breasts and rice and feed him that. It usually helps settle their tummy. If the dog continues to vomit for more then a day it needs to be seen by the vet. I would definitely go to the vet and check him out. Those little guys go downhill so quickly. Keep us updated. |
He look so tired and like he doesn't feel well.... Gosh, it's soo much nicer to see them playing and being cute. No feeling like crap. I'll call a vet in the morning... |

Update Well... he is still lying around sleeping mostly. He did vomit a couple more times. I went to Wal-greens and picked up some flavorless pedialyte and a sryinge and have been giving him squirts of that every 30 minutes or so.. And just incase, I gave him a finger of nutrical to the roof of his mouth a little while ago. Right now he's wrapped up nice and warm in a little basket I made him to help him feel safe and secure while he rests. After the nutrical, he did get up and ate a good portion of some rice w/ chicken (more rice than chicken mix) and it hasn't came back up yet.... So that is a good sign. When I came home from Wal greens at 3:30am after getting him the pedialyte, I was greeted by him running up to me and jumping around on my leg excited I was home. That was nice.... That is normal!! And he's went to the backdoor because he wanted to go outside once or twice. But it was a short time before he came back in and went straight to sleep and laying around looking tired and like before. I am going to call a vet shortly and get him in this afternoon. That is the soonest i can do it. He seems to be holding down food and the pedialyte as of now, so that's a plus. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for checking in to see how he is!! Christine:):animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
1 Attachment(s) Here's a pic of my poor little guy now. |
OMG!!! I just turned my head around to see him eating dry food!!! He has NEVER eaten dry food.... EVER since I have had him.... and there is still a bowl with chicken and rice as an option too!!! That has to be a good thing.... I mean he is chowing down on plain dry food..... even still right now. :shocked7q:shocked7q |
This has to be good!!!!!!!!! 1 Attachment(s) Sorry..... But I had to do it..... I cannot believe he's really eating it.... Please excuse the mess..... As you can see i stepped on the bowl of dry food on my way to the computer a few minutes ago.... hee hee... NOtice the bowl w/ rice and chicken behind the bowl of dry food... He chose the dry.... cool cool cool!! I'm a happy mommy!J P.S. I made him that little shirt he's wearing to help keep him warm so he can get better quicker... :) |
Well, I'm glad to hear he's finally eating a little something for you! That may put a bit more "pep" back into his step. However, I'd still keep the Vet visit. Just in case...... |
Awww good for him (: I would also still keep that vet visit though! You never know |
He is perkin up pretty well now.... I did stop by the vet and she was nice enough to come out and take a look at him and listen to all the details of how he's been, what i've done to help him, etc.... She believes he got dehydrated and that made him sick... She said getting the pedialyte was a really smart thing to do and since he's not vomiting anymore and he's eating and still keeping it down, she's sure he was dehydrated. He looked well enough for her to tell me to take him home, let him rest and just keep an eye on him.... If symptoms start again or new ones come, then bring him back.... I'm pretty confident she is right. It has been hot here and we were doing a lot of running around recently... I even seen him panting a couple of times after playing w/ my friends little dog pretty hard. It worried me. but he was having so much fun. I will be sure to make him rest next time he is playing rough and he's starting to pant.... etc.... I've read that these little guys are sensitive to things like that. |
Im so glad he is better, by the way what a handsome guy you have. |
