Help!!! MY yorkie was bit by a cat!!! Last night my yorkie, Max, was attacked by a cat. He was scratch and bit. He bled last night and I instantly hurried and cleaned him up. I then took him a bath and washed him with antibactirial soap. After his bath I put neosporin on his scratches and bite. It didn't bleed anymore after that. The area did get swollen and red. He's able to walk and jump ... (He can't sit still sometimes ... his usual self) but he is been laying around. I'm sure he sore. Should I just keep an eye on it??? Any suggestions????... |
Was it a stray cat? Does the cat have shots? I say when in doubt call the vet. It is hard to know without knowing if this is your cat or some random cat that was outside |
It was my cousin's cat and she said that she did have her shots. But I'm just very worried & not sure where to start ... he's first yorkie & this is my first real big problem ... just not sure what to do. I will call my vet ... not sure if I will get a hold of him with it being a Sunday and ... Memorial Weekend. :( |
I would definitely give your Vet a call or even if you have an Emergency Vet local, call them and ask. I know cat bites contain a tremendous amount of bacteria and can be very serious for humans. |
Poor baby! I hope he is ok. Keep us updated! |
I would call a vet the biggest concern would be infection, cat scratches can have alot of bacteria, I hope he is okay |
I'm so sorry to hear about you and your baby. My heart :2hearts2: goes out to you and you baby:aimeeyork. Have you tried calling the local vet? Sometimes they can advise you over the phone just by asking about the situation. If you feels its not an emergency right now, you can try this and maybe it will help? I hope all goes well for you and your baby.. |
Just checking to see if you had called and what they said. |
This pup definitely needs to be seen by a vet. Cat bites are the worst kinds of bites as far as bacteria goes. If he has swelling at the bite sight he needs antibiotics. Cat bites usually abscess in a matter of hours from the bacteria. |
Yes, your dog needs to be seen by the vet! If the bite or scratches become infected, this can enter your dog's blood stream, and lead to very serious consequences. :( |
***Update*** I took Max to the vet today ... he said that it looks great and he doesn't see any sign of infection on the outside ... but not to say that there isn't one on the inside. So he prescribed me some medicine. And we will have to go back in two weeks ... I'm so happy he's going to be okay ... thank you all for the information and support. Thank you ... thank you ... thank you!!!:animal-pa |
