1 Attachment(s) Pixie is about the same, thanks for asking. I made a few adjustments to her diet and I think that has helped some. I have started giving her a daily enema and that helps a little. I have attached a picture I took yesterday of her and her big sister. Her sister weighs around 3 1/2 lbs at 12 1/2 weeks. It was not easy getting them to stand still long enough to get a picture of them together.:) |
I hope Pixie is doing a little bit better!! My daughter had a similar problem when she was little around 2 at the advise of Drs at childrens hospital Boston, I was told to give her mineral oil 3 x a day, she would not even have to poop it would slide out, it worked and eventually her muscles in her bowel got strong enough to push on her own... it started because 1 time she was constipated and afraid to go, she held it for long periods of time due to the pain.. perhaps when your pups anal glad ruptured she was in pain and held her poop for fear of pain, now wont push :confused: anyways Just thinking that a little mineral oil to her diet will help it slide out with out even pushing????? |
I'm glad to hear she's hanging in there. You would never know there was anything wrong...what a little beauty. :) Was she smaller at birth than the others? |
glad to hear little Pix is doing a little better. I'm praying this is just something she'll grow out of. I was tell my friend about her last night and she reminded me about another friends kitten (another cat, i know LOL). Anyway, this kitten came into the ER because she was found under the hood of a car in the middle of winter. When the person started the car, her tail got sucked into something. It pulled her tail so hard her colon and some small intestines came out. Poor little thing looked hopeless when she first came in. We did surgery on her. Took her tail, colon, and some small intestine out. This was about a year or so ago. Today that cat is doing great. No bowel problems what so ever anymore. We though she might be incontinent her whole life but animals have a funny way of working things out. I'm sure pixie will too. I don't recall every giving any of the animals mineral oil but it sounds like its something to look into. Couldn't hurt to ask the vet. I don't think it will upset pixie at all. |

I heard on the news awhile back that when humans have a multiple births, like the lady that had 7 babies a while back, many of the children will grow up with health problems and birth defects. I think it just stands to reason that the same thing would apply to dogs that have huge litters. It is not uncommon with huge litters for several of them to die. Pixie would not have made it at birth if I had not supplemented her. As a breeder we do all we can to save our babies but in the end, often those that we work so hard to save end up having a lifetime of problems. I will never know if Pixie was born with this problem or if it developed later. |

It is not wise to give mineral oil to dogs. |

Here is a good website about constipation in dogs and an excerpt on giving mineral oil to dogs. I always thought it was safe but apparently not. Constipation and Megacolon Quote:
