Went to the vet today-no answers :( I let Audrey-Belle out to potty this morning and when I went to let her in she was coughing and gagging sort of. It seemed she had something stuck, I know she chews long grass and the occasional wood chip (no they are not the cocoa mulch kind). I waited a bit and it didn't get better, so I called the vet, this is 9am and they said they couldn't get her in till 12:30. So I called another vet I have used but don't feel as comfy with and got her in at 10:15. She made the noises several times in the waiting room but once the Dr tried looking at her she was like a church mouse. They said they couldn't see anything or feel anything in her throat. Said she was running a low fever, so maybe it's a doggie cold. She had her Bordatella (Nose) about two weeks ago I asked if she could get a cough from that this long afterwards. I don't think I got a straight answer on that. So they gave me antibiotics and sent us home. I hope she improves soon, I hate to see her cough and snort like this. She's ok when calm but if she runs or gets excited like she did when another dog put his face in her carry bag at the vet it starts up. She's eating and drinking if the coughing doesn't stop her. We had two days of temps in the 90's then last night the temp dropped and it got cold. Maybe the temp change caused it? I lost my dog of 10 years less than a year ago and Audrey-Belle is the rescue we got to help mend my broken heart. I don't want to lose her too. |
I am sorry to hear Audrey-Belle is not feeling well. I don't know how long the effects from the shot would take, but hopefully the antibiotics will work quickly. I am sorry for the loss of your baby last year. It is so scary when they are ill, but try not to worry. |
Im so sorry your baby is not feeling well. Did you see another vet. If you have to change vets 20 times that ok as long as you are getting the right information. I would be calling several vets now...Let us know how your baby is getting along....Lissette |
I agree with the above posters. A second opinion is always a good thing to do. My thought was perhaps it may be due to reverse sneezing? I am very sorry for the loss of your dear dog . |
Our last dog had reverse sneezing I know what that is. Last night she sounded congested, I am not seeing alot of improvement this morning. Now instead of having something stuck it seems more like coughing and sneezing. She has only had three pills counting this morning. With this being a holiday weekend I worry about the Dr's being closed for three days. |
I just called the Dr I like better and they said they will be open tomorrow till noon. So I made an appt for 10:15, this way Audre-Belle will be on the antibiotics she's got for over 24 hours and we will be able to see if there is improvement or not before taking her back. I am confused about the Bordatella, I asked her if there is any way she could have kennel cough from the nasal vaccine she was given there, and the girl told me no. |
I posted an Audrey-Belle update this evening. It was a bit exciting around here tonight, but I think it's over. |
video tape her doing the cough so when you go to vet you can show them on the digital camera Yes they can get kennel cough from a vaccine. My parents dog got a viral infection from the bordatella shot and was very sick - with any vaccine there is a chance they can get the disease while rare it is always a risk This is kennel cough Reverse Sneeze Collapsed trachea hope this helps |
Thank you for posting those, it confirms my last dog had reverse sneezing. Our Yorkie has not sneezed or coughed since she had that terrible fit last night and we pulled grass out of her nose. I had a feeling all along she had something like that stuck somewhere. She still sounds a bit congested but that may be extra mucus her body produced to get the grass out. Some how it must have worked it's way up her nasal passages instead of out her mouth. It was pretty dramatic. |

THANK YOU for posting those videos. Now I know what each one is. I've heard about them but could not imagine what they sounded like. It's sad though. And glad that ole blade of grass finally came out. All is well now in Yorkieland Carol and Jemma |

She is feeling and sounding normal today, no sound while she slept either. I still gave her an antibiotic today in case of irritation, etc. I pretty much knew what was up but couldn't prove it of fix it. I too am glad it's over fit she had when it finally was working it's way out exhausted her. Thank you everyone for your concern while she was not 100%. It meant alot to me. |
Dwerten, thank you so much for posting those videos. Just from reading about those 3 conditions online it was difficult to distinguish between them. I can tell now that Bandit has reverse sneezing. Is that something I should take him to the vet before, he's done it every now and then, but the last week it's been quite a few times each day. He's had no other symptoms. In one week I'm going on my honeymoon and my mom is watching him, and the day we get back we're getting a new puppy. We're taking both dogs to the vet that Monday for their check-ups, could I wait until then to take him to the vet, or should I take him this week? :animal-pa |
