Sweet Pea may have a Liver Shunt! I posted yesterday on the community board. Yesterday Sweet Pea (5 months) went to have her spay and the vet called and said her bld work was "off" so they were running a Bile Acids test and doing pre and post test. Her enzymes were elevated. So if the tests came back into the "normal" range then they would then proceed with the spay. Well i got a call back and they said "no, can't do the spay" So the vet says to give her this special food for her liver and give her anti-biotics. She may want to do an abd u/s. Now this is going to start costing some $$$ and i'm on disability. Now that she may have this i can't get pet insur due to a pre-exisiting clause. Sweet Pea does have a puppy wellness plan that i paid for that includes all vaccines and the spay, but that doesn't help me at all with this. So please can you all say a prayer for Sweet Pea that she only needs the special food and antibiotics??? Thank you all. |
What were the results of her bile acids test? Don't waste your money on an ultrasound. They are only about 80% reliable. The next step is a Protein C test. That will tell you if Sweet Pea has a shunt or MVD which can be managed with diet and supplements: Comparative Coagulation -- NYS Animal Health Diagnostic Center Did you get a one year health guarantee for congenital conditions? This is something Sweet Pea was born with and if you got her from a reputable breeder, she should help you with the vet bills. |
