Humping/Penis Hi everyone, I am taking Mika to the vet tomorrow but thought I would ask if anyone else's Yorkie has had this and if it is normal or does he have a problem. Mika loves humping his blanket and toy giraffe which is fine, needs must. What I am concerned about is the fact that the whole of his penis comes out including his little balls(Sorry). This really freaks me out.:2omg: I have to put him in his crate to let him calm down but notice that even after an hour has gone by there is still a little bit of penis sticking out of his skin pouch. I find he is also sick afterwards. Is this normal in a Yorkie? Thanks any info would be very much appreciated. |

I think more discomfort. |
Maybe this thread will help you. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-lipstick.html. According to what I've read, you want to make sure that no hair is in the way to keep it from retracting. |
The last post on the thread is one of the most helpful. Quote:

I have seen males hump until they knot up like that. It is important that you put his penis back in place. Most likely the sheath has some hairs on the end that have rolled the skin under that is on the end of the sheath thus preventing the penis to be completely covered. You can gently unfold the skin that is at the end of the sheath until the penis is covered. If the penis is exposed for a long period of time it can swell and get very painful. |
personally i'd discourage it all together. if you see him humping something, distract him with something else that elicits another positive behavior. If his penis stays out of the prepuce for more then a few minutes get some lubricant (KY) and coat it. Then gently pull the prepuce back over it. its uncomfortable and sometimes painful for them if the penis stays out too long. it will dry out, then they might obsessively lick at it and cause other problems. |
chester will hump his bear and sometimes his lipstick does not go in all the way and the vet said to put vaseline on it and sometimes in can be the hair on their wee wee. H edoes not seem to be uncomfortable or anything |

Emmett does this too, NIKI1969UK. Your description sounds about like what Emmett's lipstick looks like when he is having party time with his stuffed animals. LOL. After he is done he just stands hunched over for about 10 minutes before he completely sheathes his lipstick. I don't think it hurts him, it just makes him tired. |
My daughter works for a vet and her Westie was having this problem ... and humping his toy had nothing to do with it! I can't recall if it was before or after he was neutered. Her boss told her to take a cup of warm water, add a couple tablespoons sugar, stir it up and pour it over his little hoo-hoo. It worked!!!!:thumbup: Not having experience with a little boy, you can imagine how mortified I was at 6AM when Jackson & Nonnie had their first walk of the morning! I will just say, those who didn't normally get up until 7 was definitely up at 6AM!!! |

I agree- that's why I never discouraged it. Hey, as long as he's not humping people or other dogs, I'm fine w/ it. However, it's definitely stopped alot since his neuter about a month ago |
So my 5 month old Bailey got "excited" last night and it was about 45 minutes before it finally went back in completely! I called the emergency clinic and they said that he didn't need to be brought in if it stayed "put away" but to go get him looked at if the swelling didn't go down by this morning. This morning he was still a little swollen so my girlfriend took him to the vet since he was going to be going this weekend anyway for his rabies shot. I couldn't believe the way our vet reacted. He talked to my gf(who is a registered nurse) like she was an idiot. He kept asking her if she had ever seen an erection before and was condescending as if we were wasting his time. He said "it isn't like it was out for 4 or 5 hours"! ! ! I couldn't believe it! Needless to say we won't be going back there and paraphimosis can be a serious issue. Little did he know that she has dealt with the same problem with male babies and older men.....skin acts like a tourniquet and cuts off blood flow which can kill the tissue and lead to amputation if not addressed! |

Wow, I can't believe he acted that way, a client should always be made to feel like it's good to be cautious. I'm glad you're finding another vet, and it sounds like he's had the blood flow cut off from his brain! To the original poster, how's the little guy doing, please give us an update. |
Hi everyone, Thank you so much for all your input. My Vet told me not to panic. He is young and can't really control his urges as well as an older dog. If there isnt any over swelling when this happens, then putting him somewhere quiet afterwards is good for him. If and when it happens again and if there is any over swelling or if it is taking longer to go back in than usual, then to give them a call. :D |

Thank you! Thanks so much to those of you who put into this thread. i about had a heart attack yesterday evening when i noticed Brew was in his crate (not normal for when we are home). Turns out he was licking away at himself and yes, the entire penis came out for him too. I couldn't believe it...i thought his intestines were hemridging or something at first glace. (He's 6 months old on Monday, and scheduled for his neutur on Jan 4.) I was so relieved when i found this thread (among others). It's so helpfull when you can find such great, current first hand information It didn't get stuck out thankfully. it eased back in after a few moments of me calming him down. i'll be keeping a very watchful eye on him in the next month and bumping up his appointment if needed. Thanks Yorkietalk for saving my wellbeing again!!!! |
I know this is an old thread, but since it was brought back to life... This is called Paraphimosis. Sometimes it will retract on it's own after awhile, BUT if you're dog is like that for more than 6hrs is can be dangerous as the tip of his "lipstick" can dry out and the circulation can become cut off and kill it. Resulting in a full castration. Had this happen to one of my dogs, and it was like that for 12hrs and that's what the vet told me, plus if you google it there's tons of info. :D |
had these things happen to neutered boys too Bentley is neutered and still has occastionall shown his lipstick when he's really playing hard or happy (not sexually at all) just generally happy. it usually goes back inside but sometimes i have to help him get it back in place. little vasoline and it's usally slips in and is fine. oh the life with boys. boy dogs and eventually my son and all his fun years of figuring things out  |
oh yeah i've got no issue with a little "lipstick" ...this was the whoooole shabang!!! i had NO idea it could come out that much. i'm actually still a little shell shocked from it. haha glad to know i'm not the only one out there though! |
