Sick baby, believe its from the Frontline
 
Last night I put Frontline on my babies. I decided to only put 1/2 the small dog tube on each pup. This morning my little guy threw up 3x. It was actual food that he threw up, not just bile. He was running around normal and acting fine, I went to work today and left him home alone, which I HATED doing but had no choice at all. I think I remember him throwing up before after hes had a dose of Frontline.

Does anyone else's baby throw up after they've had the frontline?

OMG... I guess I should also mention that I gave them each a small bite of avocado last night. I just looked it up online and read that its toxic to dogs... I had NO idea!!!! :(

I think its the avocado pit that is the most toxic to them. He probably just has an upset stomach

I think a reaction to the frontline would've been immediate. I'd suspect the avocado or more likely...he just had an upset tummy. Mine have vomited undigested food for no apparent reason before.

Oh wow thank goodness you only gave them a little taste. I bet that's what caused the upset tummies and not the Frontline. At least now you know so next month when you use the Frontline and if they don't vomit you are good to go. If they vomit then you know for sure it's the Frontline and then you can contact your vet. We use Revolution for puppies and never a problem with little Izz.:D

Glad that they are all OK now.

Thanks!!! I am definately worried and will never feed avocado again! I do remember him throwing up before and thought it was frontline related. I guess its ironic that I fed avocado on the same night I gave frontline. My other boy was just fine this morning, no throw up or anything. I made sure my little guy ate a treat before I left for work, just a small bite of it to make sure he was capable of eating and I left fresh water and food down for them. Lets pray that when I get home he is doing much better! My poor baby!

Oh Christina, how scary! I hope he will be all better by the time you get home! I had no idea about avocado either...I am so going back & forth between the Frontline and Revolution myself right now....:confused:

HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOUR BABY THIS AFTERNOON WHEN YOU GET HOME. COCO WAS JUST SICK AND I WAS SO NERVOUS. I'M PRETTY SURE IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE AMERICAN CHEESE I GAVE HER:eek: SHE IS FINE TODAY AND ENJOYING HER FIRST BULLY STICK:D

Is this the kind of Frontline they give in a puppy package at the first visit? I just called yesterday to find the name of it (I had forgotten) so I could buy it somewhere cheaper than the vet's. What I used was a "sort of" tube and you put the liquid on the back of the neck. Is this not a good thing to use? I have the order made out but haven't emailed it yet.

If you guys don't recommend this, then what else should I get? Ours didn't have any reaction that I noticed.

Also, do you guys put it on every month or what?

I hope your little one is better tonight! Ours doesn't have to worry about avocado since I don't even know how to buy one much less prepare it but I didn't know they were toxic to dogs either.

I am sure you little one just had an upset stomach.
Buddy has thrown up his dinner, whole, a couple of times for
whatever reason.

Ive always used Frontline, most people here do. It does come in a little tube and you put it on the back of the neck. Its once a month, however I am using someone else's advice on here and splitting 1 tube between both boys and will carry it out about 6 weeks if it still seems to be working.

I do think I remember Dexter throwing up the day after getting Frontline in the past though too. and he certainly HATES to have it put on. He hides or stares at me from across the room and wont come anywhere near me.

I am dreading the going home scene... I get soooo scared when they are sick and I have to leave. I lost a pup one time, I got home from work and he was so sick, I rushed him to the vet immediately and within 20 mins he died... so this is a fear of mine to come home and find one of my boys too sick to save. :( ugh ugh!

Oh my goodness! Of course, you're worried sick.

Be sure to post on here how your puppy is after you get home. We go to the vet tomorrow so I guess I'll ask again. I've also got to find another way for ours to take heartworm meds... I couldn't get her to take it as I have the one dog in the universe who doesn't really care for treats. Go figure!

Hi, sorry I did not update last night. Dexter was fine when I got home... he did not throw up again at all yesterday or last night. I really do think the frontline does not help. Hes very sensative to meds as it is, I think it makes him queasy and thats only 1/2 the dose. He screamed when he had his first round of vacs and he needed pain med injections for the second round, then on the second round, he had an allergic reaction and needed benedryl. So on the next round he has (Dec I think) he'll get a pain med injection, a benedryl shot and then the vacs. Poor baby is just in rough shape when he gets chemicals. I hate doing it to him.

I use the frontline spray instead of the tube kind, that way i dont put as much on the little one. Just a thought.

I want to use that but noone carries it, I have to order it. I just ended up getting some tubes of FL, but I think when they are gone Im going to order the spray. I hear its not as effective on fleas, but really those are not my problem, ticks are. Thanks! :)

My Zander threw up with FL so I never gave it to him again. I use Interceptor its for 10lbs and under, he has done fine on that one.

I'm glad your Yorkie was okay.

We just got back from the vet and he wants us to start using Revolution since I cannot get her to take her heartworm meds. I'm all for the "easiest" way to get her protected because for the life of me I can't teach the girl to like treats! I finally got her to take a Yorkie Yummie from me today but she is soooo picky. (Plus, I think her teeth/gums must hurt from teething.)

As I understand, the Revolution will take care of the flea and heartworm meds but our vet warned us it's expensive. (I haven't researched it yet but the other heartworm med was a "no go" for us.

I have 3 yorkies. I use 2 different vets with my 3 yorkies. Two of them use Sentinel and they have been just fine. Latelly I have used nothing on Alyssa. Alyssa has sensitive skin. Back in the days when all 3 got frontline Alyssa would try to keep away from me when I would be putting it on them. She would whine, and cry and scratch for 3 to 4 days. She acted like she was trying to talk to me but I couldn't understand what she was saying. Finally, I just stopped using it. She would bite and pull on her fur and whine until I felt so sorry for her. When I stopped using Frontline she got so much better. If while on Sentinel she gets fleas I will just buy a capstar and treat her. Never again will I use something like that on any of my babies. I just feel like it is harmful to them.

Frontline is very expensive too... about $40 for 3 1 month doses! I was buying it all the time. someone here did recommend that you use 1/2 on one dog and 1/2 on the other. I am not sure if that would work when you have just 1 dog .. Im not sure if you can save the other 1/2 dose for a month or not. You could ask your vet. Frontline is topical. The dog does not eat it. It goes on their skin and gets absorbed into their body. :)
