HELP! Not Eating & Sneezing Out Clear Jelly-Like Stuff Please help me!!! The puppy is only 14 weeks old. We took him to the Vet. and we were told that the puppy is healthy. Well, 2 days later, the puppy started to sneeze out the clear jelly-like stuff, constantly. We took him to the hospital for treatment, and the doctor gave him antibiotic to take for 2 weeks. He is not getting better, just on/off mood. He refuses to eat most of the time, so we've been feeding him fried chicken or satay beef for a week now. Everytime he sneezed, he got scared and ran to a corner to hide. Can someone please tell me what my puppy is having and how I can help him feel better? Is he having a cold or allergies? What is the best way to get him to eat, again? We had a 10yo yorkie that got killed two weeks ago by a utility truck. We're still coping with the lost of our first dog. |

#1 Fried Chicken and Satay Beef = DEADLY / DO NOT FEED Plain, Bland Food - Not Fried - ONLY boiled - No seasoning, etc... Try brown rice mixed with lean boiled chicken - or brown rice with a little cottage cheese. #2 It sounds like he may have an Upper Respitory Infection. If in doubt - GO BACK to the Vet :( |
Chicken or turkey baby food (human) can be used for a bland diet if you're in a hurry or while the rice is cooking. I always keep some on hand. If your dog doesn't improve in 24-48 hours after the initial dose of antibiotics, call the vet and tell them there is no improvement. Most often they will prescribe a different AB. Your dog should show improvement within 1-2 days. If not, call the vet again till something works. If the discharge turns cloudy, get back to the vet or an emergency vet for treatment. URI's can turn into pneumonia esp. in very young or old dogs and can be fatal. |
Sounds like allergies if the antibiotics did nothing. The allergies could very well be to the food you are feeding as the poster above has already pointed out. I would try some boiled chicken and brown rice mixed. I boil chicken parts til really tender, then debone and chop up very fine to mix with the cooked brown rice. By chopping fine it sticks to the rice and they will eat it all instead of picking out just the boiled chicken. Try that for a whle til he stops sneezing up phelm. Then you could try a high premium puppy food. No more fried chicken and satay beef. |
Could be kennel cough. Anyway when they can't smell they will not eat. I agree with the baby food Chicken or Beef and rice. But if this is a puppy It will also need some puppy vits and some Esther-C would also help. |
