Puppy breathing heavy/weird after last vaccine and rabies So today I took Louis to the vet. He is a little over 3 months old and I had his last shot done and the vet said since he never had any bad reactions to the vaccines it would be okay to let him get his rabies at the same time and at his age. He got both of them done and she said that he would be knocked out at least until tomorrow. Well right now he is sorta sleepy which is normal for him at this time but when he is laying down he breathes weird, almost like a human with a stuffy nose, but when I pick him up he doesn't do it anymore. Any ideas or help? |
I am just now reading this. How is the little one this morning? |
I would not ever get rabies on the same day as any other vaccine - I'm sorry your vet talked you into that. Any time a dog might have breathing issues, it could very well be an emergency. If he was having a reaction - you might see white gums, marked lethargy, swollen cheeks etc -- and you'd want to give childrens benadryal ASAP. But, really - if there are breathing problems, that warrants a trip to the ER. Please update us - I so hope this baby is okay. |
I hope your little guy is feeling better. I don't to condradict your vet but I know my vet will only give one shot at a time and he spreads it out in two week incriments. Also, just because you dog did not have a reaction does not mean he will not have a reaction another time, even if it's the same shot. My Newman always did fine with his shots then one day after years of having them he just got a reaction out of the blue and was in terrible shape. After, I just never got that shot again. They can develop reactions at anytime in their lives. Good luck. Elaine |
Thanks everyone for your replies. Louis is doing fine. I don't know what happened last night but he is doing a lot better. The vet only allowed him to get his two shots at the same time and early because he had never gotten any reactions to anything. He has never vomited nor had diarrhea. He even started his heartworm prevention medication today and he seems to be doing fine. I am worried a little on his weight though. He weighs 6 pounds and is only 3 months old. Is that too much? |

Jackson weighed 6 pounds at his 12 week appointment, then 8.6 pounds at his 16 week appt. Now he's about 13 pounds at 7 months old and I love EVERY ounce of him and actually prefer his size compared to smaller. So much less to worry about. He can jump on and off furniture totally fine, he can run around with bigger dogs, he can rough around with kids! |
Thanks! He is getting way bigger but I still love him. You can tell in his face that he is going to be a big Yorkie. LOL |
