One of my brother's puppy's has come down with the deadly virus parvo. SHe is a little mixed Breed Chi. He has anther pup too in the house> along with both the parents. I know the father of the pups has gone outdoors .
My Suzi/Yorkie is over a yr old and has been fully vaccinated . DO I need to be concerned with her becomming exposed? AND there is a good possibility that it may not even be Parvo! I just saw the two puppies yesterday, running around ,and they were behaving , normally, not sick at all> My brother said to me they have been ill for a couple of days now?
The puppies have not ever sen a vet or vaccinated at all! My brother is upset, and is giving one of the pups medication/I do not know what medication though, and i think it is probably an over the counter remedy. I do not know what symtoms the pups have to lead them to believe it is parvo, But do know that when a pup has it they are extremely ill. Bleeding from their anal area, vomiting, and lethargic. these pups are little>
They do not have money and chances are bad that if not treated by a vet , and it is Parvo, these babies will not survive> What about my Baby? Suzi has had ALL her vaccines , + she is over a YR, will she be OK?
My family comes over once a day... Not with the animals, however, I am aware that Parvo lives on Shoes> I could have them take their shoes off before coming inside, what else can I do to protect my Yorkie? To be on the safe ?

Parvo is VERY VERY VERY serious and is transmitted the Poo, any dog can get it. If not treated by a Vet they are putting every dog in there neighborhood in jeopardy as well as everywhere they go. Chances are it is worms since they are puppies, but PLEASE have your brother call the humane society or the local animal control to find out what he should do, this does not effect only him and his puppies and dogs, and you need to know for Suzie as well. Beg him if you have to he can not ignore this.

My brother is here, and did tell me he is treating the pup with some type of paste > He called A "place" who told them what it was, he is also giving the baby Pedialite. He's doing the best that he can with what he has to work with, and I will be praying for the pup> BUt, My brother is defensive about the entire issue right now. Totally broken up about it. It is very sad.

if it parvo give them peppo bismo and pedilite that he's doing keep them home in a warm spot give them liquads from a needle syringe when they get a lille better try some of here dog food (hard) in a blender with a little water and give that to them by syringe my bassets had parvo and i doctored them until they made it ...also hubby had ssome i think it was called la200 it was for sheep goats ect...we just took a chance because they were so weak there were times you didn't know if they were breathing....Maybe thats what helped...if you do it then maybe ask a vet because mine was basset pups so they were bigger then yorkie pups:animal-pa

also if its parvo theres a odor you will never forget when they go to the bathroom to poo you will know I think its the blood usually if it issn't taken care of soon like 2 to 3 days then they pass its so sad i watched my sisters wolf pups have it . It can be worms like someone else said ...Saying prayers your way....hopefully everything is ok

If it is parvo and Suzi is fully vaccinated and up to date you shouldn't have to worry about her. however to take extra care you can ask that they take off their shoes before coming in the house and making sure they wash their hands thoroughly before coming over. extra extra care would be to make sure they do not handle the pups before coming over so its not on their clothes as well. i understand they do need to come over once a day tho.

Why does your brother think its parvo?
what symptoms are the pups showing?
Are their bellys big and hard?
Do they have diarrhea or are they constipated?
Are they lethargic?
How is their appetites?
If you pinch their skin and lift it up does it spring right back into place or does it take a few seconds or minutes?
What color are their gums? If you press a finger to the gum area how long does it take for the color to come back? Normal is pink and 1 second.


Parvo poop has a distinct smell and color.

YES. Cindy contracted Parvo while in the vet hospital being spayed. Two weeks later she started vomitting and had bloody diarhea. The amount of blood she was pooping out had a funny, coppery smell and was a dark cranberry color. When she did this at the vet the nurse called the doctor frantically saying 'Abdominal obvious!'

She planted her feet far apart to keep from falling over and her head just hung. It was sad. The vet had her on an IV for a day but it was right before a holiday and there was very little care at the vet that weekend so we brought her home. She made a miraculous recovery and is 11 years old now.

A year later we took her back to the vet for updated shots and they looked at us kind of funny. 'We have a note in her records that she died of Parvo' they told us. Uh huh.... We don't use that vet anymore.

There was an outbreak near by and from what they were saying any dog can get it but puppies and dogs that are not vaccinated are more at risk. I would be very careful.

When I first purchased a Yorkie it was at a pet store ( don't kill me! I did not know anything about puppy mills til I joined here) my puppy got parvo but the vet (puppy store referral vet) misdiagnosed him and told me it was ok to bring home another puppy. 2 weeks later I brought home another yorkie. Four days later he started acting lethargic, vomiting and diareaha. I rushed him to the vet and what do you know? he got parvo!

I did a lot of research and found out that tamiflu really does give a young pup a higher chance of survival.I called my vet immediately and told her about it and she did her research, then gave me a prescription to get tamiflu at walgreens. I truly believe that tamiflu saved my dogs life. Please have your brothers ask your vet about tamiflu!
