What is this thing on Chester's leg?

I just noticed this on my dog's leg and I have no clue what it is. It looks like a mole with a sort of reddish tint. This is new on him. It is a little bit raised, but it doesn't look like blood. Does this look familiar to anyone? Any ideas? Does this require a vet visit? Thanks for any help!

Hmm, never seen that before. I would say yes to vet visit, but maybe someone else has an idea.

is it flat?? it almost looks like a bruise... i'd watch it for a few days- see if it goes down- then call the vet- nothing like spending a lot of money for them to tell you it's nothing :p

It is sort of raised up like a large mole would be.

i'm gonna say its a bug bite. was he out in the grass before you noticed it?

I think it looks like a blood blister. It looks too big to be a bug bite. Could something have accidentally pinched him?

morgan actually had a bug bite similar to this last week that was about the same size. it was oval shaped with the longest diameter about the size of a quarter

I showed it to DF a minute ago and he said it looks like he pinched it. I looked closer and it does look like a blood blister. If he did pinch it, I have no idea what it was on. He isn't favoring his other leg or acting like he is in pain. He is acting completely normal.

I guess I'll just watch it really closely and see what happens.

In my opinion, it doesn't look like a bug bite. It looks like it's under the skin, a bug bite isn't. Blood blisters usually don't really hurt, he could've gotten it by something simple and that's why he isn't favoring it/it isn't bothering him. I would just give it a little bit (if you feel comfortable enough doing so) and see if it clears up, it should if it's a blood blister.

That looks just like bruise that was around a tick on my pup. The vet stated that some dogs will have a reaction to the tick.

I just got home and checked Chester's leg. Today, it looks a bit different than it did yesterday. There is a red dot in the middle, surrounded by a whitish area, then that is surrounded by red. Today it looks like some sort of bite...

This is exactly what morgan's leg looked like when i noticed it! Her's was in her armpit. by tomorrow it should be gone

Some tick bites look like that. Watch him, if he becomes sick
and get's tired or listless down the road call the vet. If it
is a tick that bit him watch for lymes.

I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow. He needs a few shots and a good ol' teeth brushing, so I moved it up so I can get this looked at.

i know this is an old post; however my dog has something similar on her left thigh (back leg); i took her to the vet yesterday and they saw her really quick; they said it's not tick bite but some kind of bug or insect bite; so they told me to give her benadryl; i dont think it hurts because when i press down she doesnt seem to be in pain; it's not itching because i dont see her biting or itching it ; if it was mosquito bite she will itch it; i am concerned because it's red and it's raised like there is something under the surface. does anyone have any insight? thanks

Sorry I never updated. The vet said it was just a bug bite. Weirdest bug bite I ever saw though. He's had them since and I've never seen one look like that one. :confused:

Yes, that does look like a tick bite and I would be concerned about Lymes. Here is a link to pics of what the bites look like on humans:

I don't know how the testing for Lymes is now, but when I lived in NJ, they would put people on antibiotics immediately rather than wait for the results of a test. At that time it took a long time to get the results back and it was better to start treatment. Antibiotics early is key!
IF this is a possible tick bite, I would speak with the vet about antibiotics.

tick bites on people look different then bites on dogs. dogs don't get a bullseye from a tick.

how does a ticke bite look on a dog; my dog still have a red bump and it doesnt seem to subside at all; i dont think it itches because she's not scratching at it. but now it's red with a little brown tint in the middle. i dont know if i should take her to the vet again. i took her to the vet on friday and they told me to just give her benadryl. i am not giving the benadryl since it's not itchy, but i thought the redness should go by now; but it's still there

People don't always get a rash either, but it is more common in people.
I know that I would want my dog tested if I had any concerns just to be on the safe side, since once you have symptoms, there are often many problems. Better safe than sorry.

does a tick bite itches normally; if not then i think my dog has a tick bite; its a red raised bump with something under the skin; but it doesnt itch; a bug bite should itch; so not sure what it is

If you took her to the vet and they thought it was a simple bite, I would not worry too much. Sometimes it takes a while for the bump from an insect bite to go away.

Okay, now you are scaring me!! What do I do now?? It has been a long time since that bite.

I just looked up the signs for Lyme disease in dogs and Chester doesn't seem to fit the profile...

I am quite sure he is just fine! It has been a long time and your vet checked it out!
