I have a 10 month old Yorkie (Roxy) that has what I believe to be AAI. About a month ago she became very lethargic, listless and very slow in her movements. She also had a weird contortion once in a while in her neck. I thought that maybe she had eaten something and was sick. I took her to the vet and he probed, poked and took her temp, but said he didn't see anything wrong. I took her home and w/in a couple of days she seemed to fully recover, but was left with a limp in her back leg. We didn't initially attribute the limping and lethargy to each other and assumed that she hurt her leg. My wife probed the leg and paw thouroghly but there was no obvious point of pain anywhere. Well, about six days ago the lethargy returned, only this time x10. She can now barely stand. she falls as if in a drunken stooper. Her neck is the origin of pain for sure. I did some research on the web and came across some info on AAI and I am almost 100% sure this is exactly what she has. I took her back to the vet (a new one) and told her what my thouthts were. I may as well have spoken to her in a some other language because she completely ignored my thoughts. I got pain meds for and now have her at home, but Just when I think things can't get worse the do. It breaks my heart seeing her just laying there unable to move or enjoy anything about life anymore. She was the brightest, happiest, and most playful puppy in the world only a few weeks ago and now....
Please if anyone can help with real life experience please contact me.
I just want to know if there is even a chance of recovering or am I just prolonging her misery. Looking at her like this is breaking my heart. Help!

These fur babies areike our children and it causes me much pain to hear of your little ones illness. What is AA1? Zipper has just turned 6 months. and has teething problems. Right now he has a double set of top teeth....hopefully some will fall out on their own.:animal-pa

Oh no. I'm so sorry.

Please take her to the emergency part of a large specialty hospital.
Don't wait for an appointment.
Treat her like glass until you talk to a vet with some knowledge on the subject.

Please keep searching for a vet that will listen and help you. Don't just let them mask the pain. You are her only advocate, please, please listen to your gut feelings and continue to search for help for your little girl. Don't wait another day.

There is hope do not give up. I know more success stories than I do know of failed cases. I have personally met members that their babies have AAI! We can help you through this with prayer and encouragement and answer any questions .. Don't give up:)

BB was a worse case that I have know so far and he is doing fine now. Please treat your baby like a china doll because with the symptoms your baby is showing she can get injured quickly. Do not let her jump,run. I know you said she is limp now. This is because she needs some steriods and needs to be in a specialty hospital. She needs to see a Neurologist Now ASAP. Tell your vet you want a referal right now. You need to be your babies voice. You sound like you would do anything for your little one. And these are the best things to do.
