Any ideas on Causes for Vomiting? Gucci had gotten some "stuff" the day before yesterday (he is a stinker!) that was in a pile to be picked up from sweeping (dust from lint trap in the dryer, small cedar chips (like for hamsters) and some dust from the ground (we have cement tile). He ate half of it before I caught him (a tbs or so). He vomited once that night and ate and went to the bathroom fine, he then vomited twice yesterday (still ate and went to the bathroom fine). He ate dinner before bed and drank his water then awoke this A.M and threw up again. Is his tummy just upset or do you think a vet visit is required now? - He is still the same old energetic Gucci - Still eating & Drinking Just vomiting every now and then and obviously it is going to go on again today. Could there be other causes and the junk is just a coincedence .. do I wait it out or take him in? If I do take him in, what do I ask for? Knowing his vet, she will just give him cerenia and send him on his way unless I have specifics I ask for ya know. |
I would call your vet to be safe. How much cedar shavings did he eat? I'd be worried about an obstruction. |
Not much maybe 1tbs of everything period.. some lint but not huge pieces they were just like dust rather than full blown lint balls .. not sure if that makes sense and a few cedar chips, a piece of hair and some dust (I don't know which items he ate but that's all that was in the pile). I was going to just take him in, but I'm not sure what to ask her to do because I don't even know what could be wrong. She will ask me what I want done, because dogs vomit all the time for no reason. #1 on my list was a fecal.. he hasn't had one in a month but he'd been clear since I got him and that has been a while so maybe he has something now? |
Do you think since he had kennel cough, maybe his throat is still sensitive & dry? Hope it improves today! Bella is also like a little vacuum for the floor. Also, outside.....she investigates everything. Hope you feel better Gucci! |
I have no idea, it could be. I just got off the phone with the vet and they just said if he continues vomiting today or stops eating/drinking to call them and bring him in . Not much help really. I dunno.. she also said to leave him on the kibble and not give him rice and chicken.. but shouldn't I do that to settle his stomach? It was the vet tech cause the vet is in with a patient blah! they have been known to not "know" everything . Adrianna Quote:

That's what I figured now he is really worrying me.. he was lying down in his bed and he just yelped real fast like a squeaky toy and jumped up. He began sniffing his bed after like something had hurt or bit him but there's nothing there. He then wanted to play and was jumping around  I am sooooo confused. I called the vets office AGAIN and they said I can bring him in and they will exam him and touch him on his stomach etc. and see if he yelps again and I did that everywhere already and he didn't ... he just wanted to play. I don't know what could be wrong and I am sure the vet won't be diagnosing anything either... what to do...? |
I had something similar happen to my grandog while babysitting. It is scary. When the Vet returned my call, of course as an anxious worried Mom, I tell him all the details of what happened & then paused.......there was silence.:( I can't even remember what I said, but the Vet was like 'what are you wanting to know?' I said, I don't know what to do! Should I bring him in?? He said that he didn't think it sounded serious........to watch him closely & to give him a call if anything else happened. He did discuss that it could be 'change in his diet', & then mentioned seizures. I was so worried, but everything I was reading didn't sound like that. Of course, Gucci isn't acting the same way & don't want to worry you about that. He was fine shortly after:).....playing, eating, & everything normally. Hoping the best for Gucci the Smoocharooni!! :2hearts2: |
Sometimes it does seem more serious than it is... and it is very scary for those of us that are NOT vets. He just had his morning bowel movement so I am pretty sure there's no blockage.. and there's always the possibility he got a nail caught on something while getting up or anything that could have caused him to yelp. However, it was out of the ordinary for him as he has NEVER done that before. Hmmmmmm maybe wait and see if he eats properly etc? He wants to play still, so he's not acting different. I have never had a Yorkie besides Gucci do they get a tummy upset this easily and can it last this long from eating rubbish? Something tells me YES but I am asking just to make sure. Quote:

Gucci is such a Hoover! Why bother sweeping? He'll just eat everything off the floor for you ;) Missy has tummy upset right now too. She's not vomiting but has diarhea (mucousy). I'm waiting for her next bowel movement to see if she has to go to the vet today. Anyways, point being...yes, I think these Yorkies get tummy upset easily. Missy didn't even get into anything that I'm aware of, and she's having troubles. It's really worrysome hey? I hope your little Gucci-man gets well soon. I would think the "bland diet" of chicken and rice would be good for him right now. It is what my vet suggested for Missy. Good Luck! |
I wish I had the answer:( hoping it's short term. Keep us posted. |
lol I just got done telling him, Mommy doesn't need a vaccuum she has Gucci!! and he'll clean up the floors for her lol.. he just looked at me like .. And??... haha the lil brat! I am actually boiling some up as we speak haha! I think it's best and the vet tech is just nuts. Gucci has a great vet, when she calls back I am sure it's what she'll recommend. Give missy hugs for us! How is her leg doing? and is she recovering well from her spay? Quote:

I would be worried about the ability to digest the cedar chips. Since they are wood, they can splinter and become very sharp. I would also look at the bag (if you still have it) to see if the cedar chips are treated in any way. If so, this could be causing the vomiting as well. I also, would request the vet call me back!!!! |
Thanks for the input, the vet is definately calling me back ;) I never let them get away with that one. The cedar chips are actually small shavings and very very thin like paper .. the kind you put in a hamster cage but they come in a Huge bag for Dogs etc. So I am pretty sure they won't hurt him. I looked at the bag right now and there is really nothing in them at all just the cedar shavings. These little ones can make us crazy! I really don't understand why he eats trash, it kills me when he walks around .. he literally just looks for trash! Quote:

Lilly is like that too, she drives me nuts when she just paces around sniffing the floor looking for anything she can get. She usually sniffs my sweep pile too. I'd say he's fine. Was his vomit any certain color? I know Lilly has been fine and playing before then she'll just jump off the couch and get in the floor and puke like 4 different times in 4 different spots. It's really odd. THen, she'll just lounge around and play like normal and not vomit anymore. I'll be thinking about him and hoping everything is alright though! :) |
Is Gucci better? |
So here's the update... At about 12:30 or 1:00 Gucci started violently vomiting .. every 30 seconds or so. It was all Yellow Frothy Bile, by the 3rd incident I got us ready to go the vet. I rushed him there and cried the whole way because he threw up about 14 times on our way there. His entire crate was soaked with yellow bile and I was so terrified for him. We got to the vet, they freaked out because he was vomiting so much. They took him back and began bloodwork to check his levels and everything and after reviewing that and seeing everything was normal, they went on to do X-Rays and see if he had an obstruction. He had GET THIS... NOTHING! WOW ... At this point, he has been cleaned up and everything and given IV fluids as well as some under the Skin and given a Cerenia injection and another injection for the intestinal upset. The only thing the vet saw on the X-ray was that he has Perfect healthy hips and some gas pockets in his tummy. She said he may have gastro upset from something, or he may have gotten into something that is not life threatening but making him pretty sick. She ruled out parvo etc. because he's fully vaccinated and spunky still. So we have no idea! $319.00 out of my Rent later... I am home with Gucci and his new Zanie baby the vet gave him :( adn he's sad, tired, and laying in bed while I sit here and worry. She sent him home with meds for vomiting and tummy upset but he can't take them until tomorrow. She also told me to feed him cottage cheese and white rice or chicken and white rice. I just don't know what else to do, Liver, Pancreas and all that was normal. White blood cells/Normal Red/Normal... I just don't understand. He was throwing up so much I thought he would die on the way there (20 minutes) :( It was the worst 20 minutes of my life! I am not even worried about my rent, I am just worried about my baby bear. It was just crazy how he started vomiting like wild so suddenly. Quote:
