My little chunky monkey almost died 2day! Okay, 2day could have been really bad. Scared me to death. We have 7 babies. 2 of the girl puppies Sprinkles and Snuggles were spayed yesterday. I had to pick them up 2day. I have three boys I was taking for their shots. I was just gonna do it all at one time. I changed my mind and went and picked them up and brought them home. They acted like they hadn't had anything done. Silly girls. Then I took the boys to get their shots. All went good. Then I get about a mile from home and Petee (we call him chunky monkey). Started having trouble breathing within a minute, he was in respiratory distress. It was terrifying! He kept looking at me like help me mommy! I literally flew going 120 (for real) running red lights, driving in the median and on the shoulder. Flashers going and blowing horn. I will probably be on America's Most Wanted tonite! LOL Ran him into the vets office and they rushed him back to the back. I had threw up, peepeed & pooped on himself. He was almost dead! They gave him Benadryl, Valium, Lasix and some other kind of bronchial drug. Got him better!!!!!! Vet stated it is rare to have that kind of reaction. (I would be the one it happened to!) She said any longer he would not have made it. Thank you God!!!! He saved my Little Petee. I don't know how I will take them in any more for their check ups. I will be so scared. What do you guys think. I think from now on I will wait around at the doctor's office for about 15 minutes before I leave. I just had to get this out! I hope everyone is soooo careful after their babies gets shots!! Thank you God again!!!! |
What a great job getting him back to the Vet!! Glad everything worked out ok. |
:eek:What a day, I'm glad that they got him back:aimeeyork |
I'm so sorry to hear your little guy was so sick. I really hope he is doing much better. |
I think this is one of the scariest things I've ever read about reactions to vaccines! I would've been terrified. Thank God you were close enough to get your baby back to the vet in time. I hope he's back to normal now. |
How awful. Tricksie gets hers Mon. and I will stay at the Vet's for awhile. So thankful your baby is ok. |

Hi everybody! Petee and I want to thank everybody for their prayers and well wishes!! After a rough day yesterday and Petee being so miserable last nite. He is feeling GOOD! I was so glad to go to bed last nite with my little Pillow Petee laying above my head!!! Thanks again everybody and take care of your babies on shot day!! |
What a great job getting him back to the Vet!! Glad everything worked out ok. |
Suggestions for baby after shots First I am sooo happy that things are ok now. I would talk to your vet about any allergy testing or blood work they might be able to do to see what else he is allergic to. Then I would also say YES to waiting in the Dr;s office for about 30 minutes or more just to make sure. I am sure your vet will suggest the same from now on. Maybe even leaving him there for a few hours for observation. It is better than going thru your horror again. Thank you for sharing I will be more aware. Lorrie |
Wow, what a terrible scare. I'm so glad he is ok. Phew. I used to get impatient waiting to get out of the vet's office after shots but I figured out that they keep us waiting to make sure they tolerated the shots ok. I won't be impatient anymore. Thanks |
sure an glad to read your getting back to the vet saved his life.. if he is small the vet should not give full doses.. and never a parvo with rabies... lost one this way.. and very hard even after 5 years... hugs to you. I am sure you wee in a panic but u did good... anne |

I would always premedicate with benadryl before shots, and he should never be given all his shots at once. Most vets will break up the vaccines and separate them out. This lessons the likelihood of a reaction, and if one should arise, it will allow you to see what he is reacting to. |
My daughter and I noticed our Yorkie wheezing last night, she could hear the dog on the other side of the room. I looked at the clock and knew it would be the Emergency Hospital we went to if it came to that. She had her shots, Heart Worm test, Bordatelle (sp) yesterday too. The vet told me she shouldn't have a reaction to anything before I left. I'm glad it was a slow day and we had a bit of a chat before I left with my baby. I think you have a good idea, wait a few min before leaving the vet after shots or meds are given in case of a reaction. |
