hyperventilation My little girl has started hyperventilating and I don't know what to do. We live 45 miles form emergency vet. I can't get her to breathe into paper bag like human. Any suggestions? |
Mine have never done that. Sorry, I can't help you. How is she doing? |
update We took her to emergency vet late Saturday afternoon and just got her home at noon today. Not a good diagnosis. She has tracheal collapse and because of her age surgery is not an option. She was on oxygen and given antibiotics. We just went through similar event 2 weeks ago when away from home and took hr to vet clinic who put her on oxygen, did xrays, and said she had bronchitis. She was on antibiotics, steriods and cough suppresents. Now we are told to keep her indoors, no excitement, help her loose weight. I don't know how we are to keep her from getting excited to see us as we go in and out of a room. Maybe need a pouch like people carry their human babies in. |
I am so sorry about the diagnosis. Losing weight may help a lot. I notice you live in North Carolina, too, and the pollen is terrible this time of year. I hope keeping her inside will help her, too. |
I don't know if you use a collar or a harness, but if she uses a collar a harness would be much better. Anything that doesn't put pressure on her throat. Hope she feels better soon. |
Oh, one more thought. You need to let your groomer know about her condition. When we groom dogs with collapsed tracheas we always put the grooming loop around the neck but also under one front leg to keep the pressure off the neck. That way if the dog pulls it won't pull against her throat. |
