Question about spaying Hi everyone, I hope you can help me with this. I called the vet and I am waiting on a reply but I thought I would ask you guys as well. I have a 3 year old Maltese that was spayed last November. Yesterday she used the bathroom and it seems she is bleeding. Not a huge amount like she is in heat but enough to make us notice. Is this commone? This would have been the time her heat would have come if we did not get her spayed. She had puppies back in June (with a Yorkie LOL) hence the spaying. She also has this happen of not peeing all day until late at night. I don't understand why she feels the need to hold it. Could it be a UTI? |
Since she was spay I would think she probably has a UTI or bladder stones. It would probably be best to have the vet check her. Good luck with her. |
I'm assuming both of these are treatable, right? |
Yes, they are very treatable. She may just need antibiotics. Did you just see a drop of blood in her pee or was it more than a couple of drops? Unfortunately spaying does increase the risk of females getting a UTI. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
My sister took all the dogs out last night and when Luna came in my sister wanted to check if she went (since she seems to only go once a day) and when she wiped she saw red. It was not a lot at all but obviously we found it strange. Is there a way to help prevent UTIs? |
Yes, some dogs have to be put on a special diet. |
If she is peeing only once a day I would definitely get her checked. Does she drink much water? |
The peeing thing has kind of always been that way. I don't know why. She drinks like she usually does. No more or less than any of my other dogs. |
It could be a urinary tract infection, crystals or bladders stones. UTI's are very painful and uncomfortable so you do not want to wait to get her to your vet. If she holds her urine too long, that could cause a urinary tract infection. |
