sunni's small trachea
 
we are taking sunni to michigan state [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]hospital[/COLOR][/COLOR] for an internal (expensive) exam. she still has her [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]bloating[/COLOR][/COLOR] belly and can't seem to lose any weight. the last visit gave her a good cardio exam. so we know her heart is ok. we'll just have to see what happens. i know they will want to try to fix her trachea, but i don't really want to put her thru that, shes 8. and i'm sure it would be very expensive. at least they can give me an idea for her diet. the vet recommened [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]prescription[/COLOR][/COLOR] http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/l...rey_loader.gif
dog food (science diet). she gave me a sample. i looked up the ingrediets and the very 1rst ingredient is corn!!!!!! thats a big no no in my book. i didn't even give it to her. so i'll keep ya posted on what happens at her appt. anyone out there have yorkies with collapsing trachs that did have [COLOR=green! important][COLOR=green! important]surgery[/COLOR][/COLOR]? robin and sunni

I lost my little Abbey 3 yrs ago due to a severly collapsed trachea. She also had an enlarged heart and due to the many episodes she had with her difficulty breathing she had lung damage. I did not know until our first visit to the emergency vet on the night we lost her that she could have a procedure done to put rings down that would keep her trachea from collapsing. They do it with a endoscope. I will never forgive the vet I had at the time for not telling us about this procedure when she was first diagnosed. She suffered with this for 2 years and on the last night when I was told about this procedure the emergency vet said that she would not make it through the procedure. I would give anything if I would have taken her to have it done because maybe she would have made it. I don't know how much this procedure cost.

my 8 yrs. old female has a collapsing trachea. hers doesn't sound as bad as yours. we only notice it if she get really worked up.i just calm her and shes ok. as for the cost, i just went to a specialist and its expensive because you have to have alot of tests just to get to the surgery. 1rst they go down and check out where its collapsing if its to far down they can't do anything. if it up, past a certain point they can put "rings" or whatever they call it down there to keep it from collapsing. at least $1000.00 when down and over. probaby could find it cheaper. i went to mich. state vet. there good but terribly expensive! my girl isn't too bad. we just don't let her get worked up. good luck and sorry for your loss. just the thought of losing my baby kills me! robin and sunni

My Lexy is 6 mths and has severe CT hers is genetic and she is on the prescription Aminophylline daily, its a bronchial dialator to help open up her trachea more when she breathes. Most people I know that have put their Yorkie through the surgery lost their dog during or shortly after, I don't recommend surgery. Try alternatives first, I have heard though being over weight will cause more of a cough and problems so you might want to find out what the cause of the bloating is first. She has been on Antibiotics several times and is currently on them again now, she is prone to fluid in her lungs. Shes also on Prednisilone as well for 5 days. Get a second opinion especially since yours is already 8 yrs old.

With the belly - has blood work been done? A bloated belly or pot-belly can be a sign of Cushings.
