Vet never even called me back!!!! I posted last week about Aiden brother Harley. He went in 3/27/09 to be neutered. Had 3 - 3 inch incisions..."looking for" an undescended testicle. On the fallowing Thursday he was opened about an inch and 1/2 and his facia was hanging out. We took him to the emergency clinic, and over $700.00 later we were home. I called to talk to our vet. I left a message and he has not called me back. I know he knows about what happened, because when I called his staff member said,"We just were reading his OR report, how is he doing? I told her fine, but I was very upset. She took my cell # and....NOTHING!!!!! This man used to practice where I used to go,but opened his own place just 1 year ago. I referred so many people to him. Aiden had the same thing happen to him last February, but his "stuff" was not hanging out. That visit cost me a little under $200.00. He never offers a E-collar. I just wanted to talk to him ,and suggest he help me with this huge debt he cost me and take my suggestion to offer the #$%@#% collar. What would you do?? I have made an appointment, just because it's the only way to confront him on this issue. I'm going to let him remove the stitches and then I'll give him to my DH and if this FREAK want's me to come in his office, rather than do the deed over the phone...THEN SO BE IT!!!!!!!:thumbdown:mad::thumbdown:mad::thumb down:mad::thumbdown |
You have every right to be angry. He owes you a phone call, if anything to see how his patient is doing. It's obvious he is avoiding facing up to his mistake, again. I did read your post and cringed when I did about your little one's stiches coming out as well as his insides. I would be shaking in anger. Try and keep your cool and get it across to him that you expect this to be his responsiblity in paying for the ER bill. An no Harley did not chew his stitches out. Just a thought that he might come up with. Good luck with that visit. I hope you can keep hubby calm, at least until you get reimbursed and I hope you do. I would then be looking for a new vet. |
Well I hope this vet apologizes and pays the bill as he should. But I do have one question after Aiden had an incident involving this vet, why would you use him again? I'm only trying to understand, because I know I try at times to give people the benefit of the doubt and I was just wondering if that was the case here. |
Wow! He needs to make this right. Bernie's surgeon left a sponge inside. When he started to bleed from his hip (months after the surgery) and my vet found the sponge during an exploratory surgery (to find out the cause of the bleeding), the surgeons office not only issued me an apology, but they covered the entire cost of the the exploratory surgery. No questions asked. Perhaps your vet asked a staff member to follow up and pay the fee and the staff is to blame... |
He still hasn't called you?!!! I would be livid. I think I would have to just show up at his office. Since he doesn't have the courtesy to call you, then I don't think he deserves any. Boy, I hope that he takes responsibility because word of mouth is the best advertisement or the worst liability to a business. Good luck Melissa. Will be thinking of you. How is little Harley doing? |
Have you heard anything yet? |
Not a Word!!! I have not heard anything. I made an apt with him for stitch removal on Monday the 13th. I figured if he can't call me back than my husband and I will go there....Not going to be pretty. I hope he has a lobby full of people,if he refuses to pay my vet bill,he'll be sued!!!! I'll let you all know...say a prayer I don't end up in jail. I'm looking for another vet. I know one of the posts asked me why i went back to him. When Aiden pulled his staples out,the incision was only open a tiny bit,but i did'nt want to risk an infection. He only had the outside layer open. Harley was totally open all 3 layers....The emergency vet told me that if I waited 1 day ,his risk of infection would have been much worse. He said that his outer staple being out was a blessing, because whoever sewed him up inside did'nt do it right..and i have the OP report to prove it. |
id make a copy of that ER report...just so they have the one YOU have and theres no discrepency. Good luck and keep us updated. Oh and I'd tell everyone and anyone you know about your incident...so they dont go there either. Hope your baby feels better soon. |
Vet from he###$% They already had the OP report, because when I called to speak to him, they said "Oh how is he doing,we were all reading about him this morning, they faxed over the report" I told her he was still shaky and out of it and I wanted to speak to the vet...No CAll EVER...I'm telling everyone about him...The problem in this area is not allot of good vets around. The one I was considering shaved a female kittens nipples off while doing her spay and said nothing to my friend, until she flipped her lid????? I just don't understand...:thumbdown |
Just thought this may come in handy....and you may want to add your own comment. VetRatingz.com - Show State/Prov.s |
Wow, I'm sorry this happened to your guy! How scary and maddening at the same time! I don't know if the collar would work, but I do know that some Vet's use what they call a "running" stitch.. which can untie like a basting stitch that holds nothing once it lets go. They use it out of laziness. To prevent this from happening, I alway request a knotted stitch, where they knot each stitch individually. I once had a female that "dissed" after a C-Section and she actually died with her guts laying out! I've never seen such a horrible, sickening thing in my life. I still can't think about it without losing it! There is no excuse for the running stitch and risking the lives of our babies! I can't believe he's not returning your phone calls! Go get him! |
Make sure you have pictures. The Vet should be ashamed of himself for not calling you back. He needs to pay up....Good Luck |
Update after vet visit? |
Besides the money, worry and heartache this vet has caused, just the fact he didn't even bother to call would make me be on the look out for a new vet. I can just take mine in for allergies or anything they might give meds for and she will call to see how they are doing. I thank God for a good vet. I hope you can recover some of the money you have been out and find a good vet elsewhere. Hope that baby does fine too. I don't know if I would even want him to take the stitches out but I know you have to go in to be able to confort him. Hope it works out. |
I'm so sorry this happened to your baby. How did the visit go today? |
Checking to see what happened with the vet.? |
Vet hid in Office!!!! So I was home from work yesterday with a really bad headache. My neck and shoulder and head felt tight and achy. Anyway,Harleys apt was at 4:30,and by then I had so many Exedrin in me that I did go with DH. I got there and the vet was at the front desk chatting with a client. I checked Harley in,and they immediately put us in a room and shut the door. Then the tech comes in (this never happens) we usually always get the vet. She takes out the staples and the stitches, and says "your all set". I asked where the vet was,and she said he "left for the day". B/S,....he lives in the backyard of his office. There were cars in the parking lot. He was hiding from me.....What is in he$$ is his problem. Own up to it your spineless freak:eek:. MY question to you all is...Do I let this go,or do I send him a letter with the bill, and ask him to pay me back? I know I could've had a melt down, but my head was pounding and poor Harley was shaking like mad. I just don't want to let this go,so he thinks he's gotten away with this. Please advise me what to do. I really have never in my life been in this odd position.:( |

In this letter I would also tell him that you feel he has been irresponsible in the care that he has given you (Harley) and that if you cannot resolve this at this level that you will be going to the Vet. board of Directors or whomever is the governing body of vets. Try not to be accusatory but very matter of fact. Reinterate all the clients that you have referred to him, remind him that word of mouth is a very strong tool in advertising. It works both ways. I would make sure that I have the paperwork from the emergency clinic and a log of when you tried to call his office and who you spoke with, etc. Put the ball in his court and give him a timeframe as to when you want him to respond, then follow thru. Good luck. Man this really is not right. |

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Good luck!!! What a low life chicken(*&% Vet!!! I sure hope you get this resolved.....THIS IS EXCELLENT ADVICE!!! You should see some type of result... |
Yes I would definitely keep track of all calls (time, person you spoke with, and what was said) and have records of all vet bills. Because if need be I would go to small claims court, because at this point it is more of the principle of the matter and him taking responsibility for his actions. I'm sure he would be furious if this same situation happen to his beloved small family member, he OWES you an apology and payment of the ER bill at the least. I'm so very sorry you have to put up with such nonsense. People have to know that if you are providing a service to other people you have to give 200%, its not an option. How you serve others is a direct reflection of the kind of person you truly are. You give the best of yourself no matter what. |

I am so sorry that you have had to go through this! It seems like such a horrible thing to go through, this vet is making a bad situation even worse then it had to be! I can't believe the vet hasn't called back and that he hid when you visited! I've just got to give you a virtual hug! I don't know if this will work, but you could schedule ANOTHER visit, this time EXPLICITLY schedule it with THAT VET! Like a meeting with the vet, then he couldn't get out of it, unless he canceled. Otherwise, if you send the letter, make sure to send it DELIVERY CONFIRMATION!!! That way they can't get away with saying they never got it! ;) I'm hoping he steps up and acts like a responsible person. I'll think good thoughts for you!!! -Vicky |
I can not believe the vet won't speak to you about the situation! That is just rediculous and I would definitely do something about it. Even if he felt he wasn't to blame, he should still speak to you. I think the fact that he's avoiding you proves that he's guilty. Sometimes mistakes get made..but a responsible and caring vet would apologize and do whatever they could to rectify the situation. |
I am speechless. |

I've been thinking about the danger this doctor is to other little animals. He needs to be reported to help prevent this happening again!!! I agree with the advice to document everything. I personally would also have to speak face to face with this man and confront him with the harm he caused (in a calm manner). Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best. |
He has shown his stripes. The money...call it sunk costs. Report him to the Vet Board & the BBB. He has had ample time to contact you....save another pup!!! The next one may not be so lucky, If my kidz are sick my vet or one of his staff call to make sure they are feeling better with treatment. |
