ziggy might have kennel cough -HELP! hi, i've only had ziggy about 4 days & from reading online.. i think he might have kennel cough. it sounds like a dry hacking cough, or he's choking & he's trying to get something out of his throat. i took him to the vet just yesterday & they said he was very healthy! it happened earlier today & a couple of times throughout the day, but now he's asleep.. he has been eating, drinking & playing regularly. i'm really concerned for my ziggy, any suggestions to cure my baby? please help! |
Cough I think I'd call the vet again......long ago I had a baby doxie who was coughing, she ended up needing breathing treatments for 4 weeks....it was bad while we were going through it....but she lived a long and healthy life after her airway opened up and she was cured....just an FYI:animal36 |
You need to call your vet and let him know about the coughing. Kennel cough is very serious in puppies. |
When I 1st got Momo, he had kennel cough & whenever I took him to the vet, he didn't make those noises. The vet listened to me (I described in detail & even gave her the times - it's really bad in the early mornings) & prescribed antibiotics. You should take your baby back to the vet...if left untreated, it can lead to pnemonia & in severe cases, death. |
thanks to everyone for replying. this morning i called the breeder & he told me to wait it out a couple of days, although he mentioned the antibiotic clavamox(?) and he may not even need to be checked. i called the vet right after to ask about clavamox, but they told me that i needed to see the vet to make sure it's kennel cough. so, i have an appointment tomorrow afternoon.. |
Nemo was doing the same thing about a week after I got him. I immediately got online and read everything and suspected the worse..but when I took him to the vet he got a vaccine for Kennel Cough and now his cough is down to when he gets excited or he eats funky stuff off the floor (he's a garbage disposal!). My vet (who owns 3 Yorkies...I totally scored with getting a vet!) felt his trachea and said its a little flimsy like Yorkies are known to have but he hasn't really had a problem with it thank goodness. |
Update just an update: i took ziggy to the vet today.. & he has a mild case of kennel cough. the vet gave his some antibiotics.. so hopefully my baby feels better soon! thanks to everyone for replying! |
