legg-perthe's disease Can anyone help me with the cause and treatment of this disease? It is a 9 month old male nutered yorkie pup. |
Cause is known to be genetic and therefor the OFA and YTCA recommend not breeding affected dogs or those known to produce Pups with the disease. Treatment is usually surgery. They remove the part of the femoral head that has died from what I've read. I'm sure your vet can give you more details. I'm sorry about your dog |
thanks Widget is going to be x-rayed tomarrow just to make the correct diagnosis. I am praying that it is not LP and he has just injured his hip. I know the breeder has had other litters and I have the only one that may have this. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that the vet is wrong and it is just a strain. He does seem a little better today but decided, even though I am not thrilled about him going thru anesthesia, that we need to find out for sure. |
Legg-Perthes is genetic in Yorkies. Did you get a health guarantee from your puppy's breeder? Hopefully she will work with you to get him the surgery he needs. As MyFairLacy said, you need to let her know the diagnosis so she can stop breeding his parents.
