Dog swallowed plastic...what happens?!! Help!! Anyone have a dog that swallowed some plastic from a toy? My friend has a dog that was just developed Pancreatis...Vet treated the dog...dog was sent home with meds....however the next day dog was back sick all over again ...but now even worse...a ER visit was next in the middle of the night....now Vet suspects that the dog swallowed something she can't pass...even though the dog has loose stools and vomits. owner is frantic her small dog will not survive all this ...because if they find something she can't pass it means surgery the next day. They suspect a small plastic toy...Is plastic toxic if swallowed? There are 3 Vets working on the dog. |
Sorry to hear about your friend's dog. Unfortunately I don't have any answer for you so I'm bumping this thread. BUMP! |
Most toys that are plastic are not toxic. If the vets thinks that the dog ate something and there is a blockage then surgery is usually what happens next. A couple months ago my sister's Cairn Terrier ate her Birkinstock sandel. She found the sandal missing 3 straps and 3 buckles. She called the vets and he said give it time to pass. After a day the dog was spitting up foam and having loose bowels movements. X-Rays were taken and you could see leather and buckles stuck in the intestines. Her dog had to have surgery and they found all the missing sandal. He is fine now. |
thank you for your response. I hope too..that all goes well ... the dog is a Norfolk Terrier and only a year and half. Nikeann07 |
