Bump under the skin I was playing with my Yorkie and I noticed he had a small bump on the right side of the rib cage. At first I thought it was a section of hair that had matted. But When I felt closer, it was a little smaller than the size of a dime and was definitely under the skin. He doesn't wimper or show any signs of pain. Any ideas? Maybe a cyst? A tumor???? |
It's hard to know without seeing, but my first thought was a possible hernia? |
Bella has a little spot like that, but it's on her neck. I think it has something to do with her Rabies vaccine because I first noticed it a few days after her first shot. I've called the vet a few times about it, but they just say it's normal, it goes away, and to put a heat pack on it to shrink it faster. I still think it's weird because it's been nearly a year since her rabies shot and it's still there. With it being on the rib cage, I doubt it's the same thing. But the description is similar. Good luck figuring it out! |

Has Bella been microchipped? If so, it's possible that is what you're feeling. |
She has been micro-chipped, but I felt this before she was chipped, and I can feel either of them now. The chip is about 1 1/2 -2 inches below the knot. |
That kind of makes sense though, he just got his rabies shot last week. And I saw the vet give him the shot about two fingers below the shoulder bone. Right around where I feel the bump. |

Bria has the same thing and i also noticed it right after the rabies vacc but the vet tec did tell us that she may get a little bump from it but it still hasn't gone away yet. |
Winston has the same thing in the same spot. On his right rib cage and its no bigger than a dime. It has been there for a good 6 months and I was told is was from his Rabies vaccination as well. Weird! :) |
That was my first thought , it was from the injection site, of a vaccine. Our Yorkies are so small that we can feel where they have given it to our babies. It takes a while for the bump to completely go away. If you are concerned I would check with your vet. :aimeeyork |
Chase had the same issue. My boyfriend felt a little pea sized lump by his shoulder blade last week and we took him to the vet. If you can put your finger underneath it and it is not connected to to the tissue, it is probably a cyst or a reaction from vaccines. The vet told us that cysts are very common and they would not suggest doing a biopsy or surgically removing it. She told us it is most likely from a reaction from a previous vaccination and it will probably go away on its own in a few weeks up to a couple of months. I'm going to keep an eye on it and will have it checked out again at the next visit. Hope this saved you some worry! |
My little on had the same thing. The vet told me it was nothing to worry about but I had them look at it everytime we were there. After several years it stated to get bigger so they removed it-It was cancer but thank goodness they got it all. I would have it checked out. Ann |
