Luxating patellas I know a lot of yorkies get it...I thought I had dodged the bullet. But I went to the vet today just for a checkup and he said Tetley's got loose kneecaps so if he ever suddenly pulls lame, I'll know why. Thing is, Tetley has never shown any problem whatsoever with his walking. Is it possible that even though he has it, it will never become a problem? :( Tetley's 2.5 yrs old now. |
PS - I know this is a common topic on here, I guess i'm just looking for some hope that maybe this won't ever develop into a serious surgery-requiring problem. :( |
awww- i feel ya. Layla has it in both legs- if the vet hadn't told me i'd never know- it is VERY possible for them to live out a full life and stay in stage 1 or 2 and to stay symptom free- however that being said- a simple jump off the couch can cause ANY small dog's knee- diagnoised LP or not to go from perfect to stage 4. But keep Tetley's weight down and keep up with the walks- and things SHOULD be ok. Many people are using a glucosamine (Cosequin) supplement- Layla's tummy can't deal with it but she is still doing fine without it- actually at her last visit the vet said her legs were doing BETTER than the last time they were checked- who knew! |
Luxating patellas My Georgie is 12 years old. when he was a pup the vet said he had low-grade Luxating patella in a back knee. It flicked around a bit never serious enough to bother him. By the time he was three it started to go away - After 4 years it has gone entirely. This is not unusual and recent literature supports the fact that the condition can go away with age. He has no sign of it now. I will try to find the research to post. Cheers, Gillian and doggie gang, |
