Poor baby has diarrhea for 3 days We were puppy sitting some other dogs over the weekend and now my Kaylee is sick with diarrhea. I thought it might just be that she had stolen too much of their food since she's on a different diet and her stomach wasn't used to it. Our other 2 had a little bit of a loose stool for maybe half a day or less but are better now and she's still miserable. We're starting her on some homemade chicken and rice today to see if that helps but do you think it has to do with the other food or does it sound like some kind of infection? |
Cali has been having bouts of this and now my other 2 have had a little loose poops. Cali also had a fever and was acting sick, the other 2 have been acting normal. Hopefully it's just a little bug. Hope she feels better soon. |
Is she a puppy and the other 2 adults, by chance? If so, it could be giardia. When adult dogs get giardia, there might be no symptoms - or very few and it resolves quickly in a healthy adult (usu. w/out meds). In a puppy though, they need treatment asap. So, if she is a puppy, it would be good to get a fecal asap. :) |

Poor baby:( I hope she's all better soon! When one of mine get loose stools, I give them some plain canned pumpkin (about 1 tsp mixed in their nightly yogurt). Works like a charm! I try to keep some on hand by taking the can and dividing it up into tiny plastic containers and freezing it. Good luck:) |
I heard about pumpkin a long time ago and totally forgot about it! I've never tried it myself but so many people swear by it. Thanks! |
How's your baby doing now? Better, I hope:love: Oh, and I forgot to mention that it's okay to let all the babies have some pumpkin too. It works for runny stools and constipation as well and won't hurt them if they don't have either condition;) My two eat from the same dish, so when one needs it, I just let them both chow down on it. |
All better :D She is doing much better thanks :) We ended up just taking her into the vet since her stool was still really runny and now had blood in it  They said she didn't have any worms so that was good but didn't seem to know what the problem was. They gave us some antibiotics and then probiotics to try. That mixed with the pumpkin and bland diet did the trick. Vet said may be 24-48 hours before her stools get back to normal but we haven't had any problems since getting back from the vet. I'm wonder if it would have fixed itself without going, but paranoid mommy and daddy couldn't take seeing their baby suffer any longer. Oh and I tried giving the pumpkin to our other two dogs...our other girl loved it but our boy for some reason turned his nose up at it. |
I'm glad your baby is better:) Better safe than sorry, taking them to the vet is always best if you're not sure what's going on, and whenever there's blood it's a doubly good idea:thumbup: I did forget to mention that I have to mix the pumpkin with some yogurt or cottage cheese, then they scarf it up:laugh: I give mine plain lowfat yogurt every night for dinner, the bacteria in it seems to keep them nice and regular:D |
Glad to hear that she is better. |
