help..need advice. Pippin has a bit of an eye infection in his left eye and his vet gave me drops. He gets one drop in his left eye every 8 hours for 7 days. He was good for the first two days and now all he does is fight and it's actually to the point where I want to give up. Anyone have any advice for an easy sure fire way to get the drop in his eye? |
Could you have someone hold him while you put in the drops? My husband is always good to hold a dog for me to medicate ears, check teeth, trim nails, anything that makes them want to wriggle away. |
Try sitting him in your lap with his back facing you. Slide him down between your legs and hold him with your knees. Pull the top eyelid up until you can see the white of the eyes across most of the eye. Hold the eyelid back and use your other hand to put the drops in the eyes. Lots of things are easier with the dog facing away from you -- a trick a groomer showed me. Good luck, and don't give up. He needs his meds. You can do it. :) |
Get a towel and wrap him jellyroll style leaving only his head exposed. You will have much better control and in a pinch you can sit in a chair, tuck the towel wrapped bad boy between your legs and use both hands to put the drops in his eyes. This is NOT an ideal way to hold him, however, it is safe and works if you don't have an assistant that can help. |
Believe it or not I've tried both of those methods and he knows whats coming and he'll snap at me and cry and wriggle away. My dad is stronger then me so he held him today so I could get the one little drop in his eye. It's only 3 more days of this torture and then he's home free. His eye was swollen, but it's looking so much better now and he's hardly scratching at it anymore. |
