umm...I know that my dad has a dog that is allergic to almost every kind of dog food there is and he itches all the time poor thing, he can't eat wheat, corn, I am not even sure what all but they had to do a special blood test on the dog to know and I know that they have to give him a bath every other day with special shampoo and he also has to get a steroid shot every now and then. Hopeful someone will come along to help you out, sorry I am not much help. But I wish you luck. |
Bump Can someone please help with this question, I feel bad... |
I've been going through this since last summer. I've finally pinned it as flea allergies. We did 3 food trials (all 3 months long) and no change. You could try washing her bedding and clothes in Tide free or something without fragrance or dyes, just to rule that out. Make sure your home is free of dust and vacuum frequently. Mitzy is on a flea preventative called Comfortis and WAS being given it every month. We also have the house treated once a month. I NEVER found a flea on her once we switched to Comfortis but she was still getting bit. I learned it only takes one bite to set off an allergic reation, and its a fairly common allergy especially your dog has ever had fleas before. My vet suggested we put her one the Comfortis every 3 weeks instead of every month and isince then we've had no itchies. May I ask if there's a generalized area where she's itching? Mitzy was itching her face and armpits NONSTOP day and night. They say flea allergies are usually itchy by the rear end and face but she never itched her rear end. It was confusing because all signs pointed to food and it ended up being fleas. I'd suggest treating your house for fleas and vacuum at LEAST once a week. Get her on Comfortis and a food with a single protein source (a protein that she's never been exposed to) I'd suggest Wellness Core Ocean, Natural Balance Fish, or we tried Taste of the Wild Bison and it worked great. Hope some of this helps.. |
My Cali has severe itching and we did testing and food elimination to no avail. We finally put her on a medicine Atopica and it has almost eliminated her scrtaching. It is an immune supressor but her vet felt it was ok for her to be on it. It runs 60.00 a month but really has helped her when nothing else did. |
My mom's yorkie itches at the slightest thing. I have a very small boy that was the runt of his litter and I think if I had not gotten him on vitamins and special food we would have lost him, but he has Demodex I have to give him Promeris and bath him once a week or he starts to loose his hair You have to let your vet help you with itching if it is allergies they can test him which a full panel allergy test, itis expensive but it is a one-time thing and settles the matter once and for all. I think my mom's Yorkie is nervous because he only scratches at night I suggested mom walk him or let him run outside and work off some nervouse energy before bedtime, she said it seems to be working :wavey: |
thanks for the help i dovac every second day ,we have switced the food to orjen fish also NOW 100%fresh meat 0 grains they really love both kinds . as for fleas we have been checking often ,but i understand that yes she could be allerigic but would all my others dogs not be scratching as well ? is the comfortis ingested or the stuff that is put on the neck ,as she has had a reactiond to advantage .as for her scratching it is on her inner chest area and all of her joint areas |

I am in Ontario and my breeder said that she knows of someone here that does canine allergy testing. They can rule out all the foods that could be causing a reaction - then you have to find a food with the good foods. I am not sure if they is available where you live, but it might be worth a try to find someone that does it. |

does the prednisone make it better if it does it is enviromental allergies not food, start some salmon oil, the dye free laundry soap, and dryer sheets, has she been tested for anything that would make her itch. Look up apple cider vinegar and water that does help too. I run a flea comb through chester almost every nite. |
