Vommiting My 2 year old yorkie began vommiting 2 days ago. The first time he vommited was quite a bit, and contained a lot of undigested food. He proceeded to throw up overnight, and the next day as well. We took him to the vet where he had a full body xray which showed no major abnormalities, and also labs, and liver enzyme testing(still waiting on results for these). The vet told us to refrain from feeding him for 24hrs. His fluid intake is a little diminished( in 24hrs he drank about half what he would normally.) Today i left him alone for 4hrs during which time he puked 5 times (this time the vommit was yellow and semi-formed). Also a note, along with the vommit he has dark colored stools along with regular and gellatenous looking diarrhea. When this first started he seemed fatigued, but now after 2 days of this he appears active, barking, and all around normal. Anyone experience this before?? |
Are they doing a Spec cPL to check for pancreatitis? About a day before this started, did he eat anything that he doesn't normally get? Is his stool bloody? What are you feeding him now? |
Did you introduce any new foods to him? Could he have eaten something weird? Joey had an extreme case of vomiting once, and they never did find the problem, they thought perhaps he ate a spider. He was put on a mild diet for about three days, chicken and rice, and recovered nicely. |
He didnt eat anything abnormal that i am aware of. His stool is not bloody anymore, althought there were specs of blood in the first stool after this began. Im not positive about the pancreatitis screen, would that be a seperated lab test or part of the regular lab workup. As of this moment he has not eaten anything since 6pm last nite (per doctors orders) - normally he is on a renal diet (Science Diet Small bites) due to the fact that at one point his BUN was elevated about 6 months ago. |

How high was it elevated? A Spec cPL is not part of a normal blood panel. they may want to see if the lipase is up first to run this but it probably shoul dbe done anyway. |
