I think Riley is hypoglycemic... My fiance woke me up at about 4 this morning (its now almost 7) worried about Riley. He sat her up and she just kinda wobbled to the ground. We just moved so we don't really have anything in our house at the moment, so he had to leave and search for some honey. While he was gone, she just got worse. She became completely limp and she kept her head over to the side and wouldn't move it (it almost looked like she snapped her neck). So he finally got back with some honey. At this point, I'm am so thankful that we have sickly animals because I have collected quite a few syringes. I cleaned one really well and put some honey in it and force fed her. I gave her some water in between and when she looked a little better, I mixed the water and honey and force fed her that too. I've been keeping an eye on her ever since then. She's thrown up twice, but I think that's because of being force fed everything. She's asleep right now, but she's doing a lot better than a few hours ago. My only problem is that I have a very important weekend at work (starting today) and I don't want to leave her side. However, I can't take her to the vet without this very important weekend as it will bring in quite a bit of money. I guess what I'm saying is... help? |
Are her gums pink and her energy picking up? Once the sugar kicks in and they start to feel better you need to get some food in them. How old and/or small is your baby? |
It definitley sounds liek hypoglucemia to me. Can you get her in to the vet today? Is she eating frequent meals? That is really important to help prevent another epsiode as well as get some Nutrical. Is there anyone you can leave her with to watch while you are at work. I would be very nervous leaving her alone as they can go done very fast. I know my vet will hospitalize during the day and it is pretty inexpensive, around 25.00 a day, at least she would be watched and treated. Keep us posted. |
Bit of an update For those that dont know riley is about 13 weeks and 1.9 pounds. Anyways riley ate a bit before we left and we are currently sitting at the vets office waitng on some blood work to make sure there isnt something else causing it. Please pray for her that it isnt something worse. |
Oh my, she is an itty-bitty thing - so glad you got her into the vet. Prayers coming out from Utah, please keep us updated. |
Back home from the vet Well were back home from the vet. They did a bunch of blood work and it all came back normal except she has a bit of anemia but that could be caused by many reasons. They started her on an iron supplement. They also said that the best reason they have right now for the all of the sudden hypoglycemia is the attack on her immune system. She just got over giardia, she was given flea medication that wasn't really good for her (thats my fault and i feel extremely terrible about it), she just had her vaccines, and she still has fleas. So my little girl has a lot going on right now. I'm just so excited that she gained a bit of weight. She was stuck at 1.5 pounds for the longest time and now she's finally weighs 1.9 pounds, which even though its small is a big improvement for her. Now while she's getting her rest, I'm going to get mine as I have been up since 4 and I have to be at work in about 3 hours. Did I mention I adore you guys? I don't know what I'd do without y'all. |
I pray your baby will be okay. Do you know what vaccinations she was given and how long ago? I do hope you watch her very closely and don't leave her alone for a long period of time. She is so tiny and if she has a hypoglycemia attack while you are at work you could loose her. I also recommend you keep some Nutri-cal on hand. I don't recommend honey because it can harbor bacteria and make your baby sick. Karo syrup and water works well. I pray your baby will be okay. |
