Update 1 Attachment(s) Baron is doing better today. Lots more energy - he's chasing me around an biting my toes occasionally. He's still not 100% for sure, but better. The vet wants to wait to do any tests until he is up for it (since he is so small and they need a decent amount of blood to do testing, as long as he is stable, she thinks it's better to wait). I have a check-up for him scheduled for tomorrow. So, we'll see. Anyway, here's a pic from today while he was on my lap. : ) |
So Cute.....I know you have your hands full...Good Luck and let us know what the vet says about Baron... |
Hope Baron's vet check goes well...keep getting bigger and stronger each day little one!!! |
Big litters must be a MO thing. Our girl Lilah had 11 pups in Dec, with 9 surviving. They will be 13 wks tomorrow. Hope all goes well with your little ones. |
wao! this is an amazing story. Good luck for Baron and the rest of all the puppies. Sorry for the ones you lost. I will love my Sasha to have babies but I have a regular job and I'm 9 hrs out of the house every day. I wouldn't have time to take care of them |
Update 2 Attachment(s) baron is doing much better! He is putting on weight, walking around, and eating and drinking on his own full time (and, he knows his name and is using the puppy pad about 95% of the time). I just got back form the vet - she says he's gaining, but she's like to see him a lot more "plump." She also said his only issue now is a calcium deficiency, which we can give him supplements for. We think that he just wasn't able to eat much after being weaned, and he has so much hair, that I didn't notice he was losing weight. But, now he is on track to be in perfect health! I am sooooo happy! : ) here are some pics I took today! |
YEA YEA YEA...Im so glad Baron is doing better....I think Im in love..... |

Awwww i'm so glad he's doing better! Where do you get the supplies for a hypoglycemic attack?! The karo syrup, syringe etc..? I want to keep this stuff on hand for Bailey (just incase) but I don't know where to find it. |
Baron is so tiny and cute ! what a little miracle he is ! I am so happy is is quite the fighter! YAY, for Baron ! I can see why you would want to keep him. He's precious . :aimeeyork |
AWW he's precious Good job Sara.. You should be one proud mommy:) |

The lactated ringers (fluids) and syringes and needles, etc I get from our vet. It's good to have on hand - just make sure that you warm it a little in the microwave before using it - you don't want to cool a sick puppy by injecting cold fluids. Other than that, have a heating blanket on hand for sure. Yorkies can get sick faster if they get cold. |

Update There is a new twist to the Baron saga. I noticed a few days ago that the hair on his rear end and the underside of his tail was basically non existant. But, i thought maybe it was from all the icky poo he'd had. Anyway, yesterday, I noticed he had a thin patch of hair on his back. I checked him over, and he was missing hair on both his front paws and the back of his ears. The spots were fairly small, and his hair is so thick that the only way to see it was by fluffing the hair up and looking really hard. Anwyay, I got him to the vet as soon as I could today - FUNGAL INFECTION! Apparently caused by the antibiotics and his weakened immune system. The vet said it's like any of us getting a yeast infection after antibiotics. Lovely. Since he is so small and his liver is not fully developed, no pills - I have to give him sulfur baths! It smells like rotten eggs! my whole houes stinks today. haha ANd, I didn't completely read the bottle before using it, and I totally ruined my wedding ring (it was stained like a weird gold color, but now it's like a dark silver color, very weird). ANyway, i thought I would let everyone know. But, Baron is doing great otherwise, no itching or anything like that, and the vet says his hair will grow back in about 3 weeks. : ) And, he may have a new mommy soon! Once he gets better and I'm sure he is okay, there is a lady waiting for him! |
Awww. poor little Baron. I'm so glad you were able to find out quickly what was going on this time. But, you're wedding ring!! Do you think it can be repaired or restained or something? |
Sarah, Im so glad Baron is well. How old is he now? You need to send us some new Pics of him, Ok...? Cant Wait.. |
Baron 3 Attachment(s) Poor Baron - His hair is falling out all over the place! He has a ring around his back that is almost completely bald, and it is starting on the top of his head and over his eyes now, too! I just gave him another sulfur bath (without any jewelry). The bottle says specifically "Warning: May stain light colored dogs/cats and porous (e.g. cement) surfaces. It will change the color of jewelry." My ring is starting to look more like normal, though. i think with time the top layer or whatever will wear off and it will be fine. The good thing is, the discoloration is on the under side of the ring, and basically I'll be the only one that sees it. haha It's one of those things that is upsetting, but not like a huge deal to me, I guess. It'll just be a story to tell if someone says anything about it. LOL But, back to Baron - he smells like a sparkler on the 4th of July. I have some pics I just took with my phone - I can't find my camera for the moment. He's wet, so you can see the spots a lot better. |
Forgot to mention... He'll be 10 weeks old on Monday (4/6/09). And he has gotten FAT - which is great because he was SKIN AND BONES when he was sick. |
OMG he is a little ROLLY POLY. How cute. When did the doctor say you can give him antikbiotics? Soon I hope. He is so cute Sarah and you did well.. |

I was hoping we could give him an oral antifungal medicine, but since he's so small, I don't think we'll be able to. So, for now, just the sulfur baths. I guess if his hair doesn't stop falling out, we'll go back and re-evaluate the treatment/diagnosis. But, at least for now the only issue is his hair falling out. :) 3 weeks ago his was on death's door, so I'll take bald compared to the alternative! |
Hey, I am the lady with the very very tiny little girl Keylee, I have been down this road many times. 1st go get you some Nu-cal. This is a must. They love the taste. Give this in the morning and before you go to bed, no matter if he seems ok or not. Also you can put alittle syurp in his water. This helps keep the sugar up. I learned that when they are smaller it is better to stay on the can, soft food longer, and you can add some Val. pudding in the food. How much does he weigh??? I also love DYNE this is a high calorie liquid dietary supplement. This is great stuff!! You can get it at Discount Pet Supplies, Pet Supply, Online Pet Supplies It is great for any puppies or dogs not eating good. This is what help Keylee so much. Good luck I hope this helps. The thing to rememeber is even if he looks as if he is find, it can happen again very fast!! Always stay on top of it. Set your clock to get up and check on him in the night time. Good luck again |
Better Pictures 4 Attachment(s) Here are some better pictures I took of Baron. He went to the vet today (well, I gues sit was yesterday - why am I still awake?) She said the fungal infection seems to be cleared up (his hair stopped falling out), but I still need to give him the sulfur baths just in case. And, we just have to wait for the hair to grow back now. Other than that, he is basically fine! : ) I feel so awesome! Baron and I have the greatest connection, too! I love him so much. I am going to BAWL my eyes out when he has to leave! |
Awww.. he looks adorable..puppy smell -i love it! Glad to hear the good news. Keep the pictures coming, they keep me sane at work! Cheers!! :D |
Way to go, glad to hear Baron is doing so much better! |
You need to pat yourself on the back YOU SAVED HIM.... |
Haha, I know, isn't it great! I feel so amazing about it! he is the SWEETEST little guy, and all the sleepless nights and constant stress has finally paid off! : ) I am so in love with him! |
Sounds as if you have really bonded with little Baron...which is going to make it so much more difficult to part with him. I think you should keep him...he's a keeper!!! |
