Yorkie is shaking!!! On Monday 03/09/09 we took Chloe in to get spayed. She is almost a year and a half old. While there we also needed to have a dental cleaning and 2 baby teeth pulled. They informed us that she was in heat and it would cost extra for the spay. They used a laser treatment for the spay. So far she has been fine. About an hour ago she was in my lap and I set her on the floor very carefully because I needed to get up. She immediately started backing away from me and has been shaking very badly off and on since. Her heart seems to race at times, and out of nowhere she kind of freaks out and acts like she is trying to get away from something that is scaring her. At one point when I had her on my lap again, she stood up suddenly and tried to jump up to my head and climb my chest... all the while shaking again. I called the emergency clinic around here and they were not helpful at all. No advice outside of "just bring her in if you want." We had some pain medicine that the vet gave us that we administered about 30 minutes ago in case she was in pain. The wound looks a little swollen, but doesnt seem to be painful to her when we check it. Is this normal? Should we be worried or should we take her to the vet? Thanks in advance. |
Bump for ANY help at all? As an update I just went to walmart and got some karo syrup... gave her a little... and the symptoms have not improved. As a recent occurence... she was laying down on the floor and she got up incredibly fast and raced over to the corner of the room and is cowering there. She will shake for about 5 seconds... stop for about 2-3 seconds... and then start again. Its been almost 4 hours now. I called a different emergency vet and its a very hefty fee to take her in this time of night. Any feedback???? |
No, it does not sound normal. I'd be concerned enough to take her back to the vet to get her examined. I hope your little girl gets better soon. She also sounds like she might be in pain, but I'd definitely get a professional opinion. :( |
The vet opens in about 5 hours. Do you think this is something that can wait or should I head to the emergency vet now? |
She may haven an infection, I'd take her in. Thinking of you and Chloe and that she feels better soon. |
Guess we will call the emergency vet back and take her in. Thanks for the advice everyone. |
It does sound like she's in pain. It is normal to still be somewhat painful a couple days after surgery but it shouldn't be severe, especially with pain meds. Taking her temperature would be a good idea. You know your dog best and if you think she's acting very abnormal it's best to be safe and take her in. Hope everything is okay |
Did you take her to the vet? Keep us posted. I hope she's doing alright. |
Just reading this.... Hope she is okay and you will keep us posted. Also, wanted to say welcome to YorkieTalk. |
Please give us an update on Chloe. Hope she is feeling better. What a long night you had! |
Thanks so much everyone for the support and welcome. We went to the EVC and were there until about 5:00AM. I was told she had a slight tempt but the wound from her surgery seemed fine. They ruled out blood sugar by doing a test. They did notice that her anal glands were slightly swollen. They cut the hair around that area a little bit and did a "but squeeze." She was also sent home with an antibiotic in case of infection and was given an injection there. As of this morning, she is still acting the same. Shaking like a leaf, random moments of what appears to be extreme stress and/or fear where she will get up and dart across the room and shake in a corner or under a desk. Called our family vet and they said the same thing... "sorry we have no idea... bring her in if you like." I guess I was hoping for some sort of a possible explanation as the bill from getting spayed and having her teeth pulled.. plus the $150 from last night (especially in these economic times) hurts. Not sure if we are going to take her in today or not. I think we are going to see how she acts as the day progresses. |
