sick Bentley? need advice Bentley started vomiting today for no reason. 3 times it just looked like food but the 4th time it was a mucusy blob. Im not sure if he has pooped today. He ate fine through out the day and was acting fine until about an hour ago. My boyfriend said he thinks he is just trying to get something out of his system like something he may have eaten, stick etc....I really hope he is ok. he seems really restless and hides every time he is about to throw up :( luckily he has a vet appointment tomorrow anyway cause he needs to get his rabies shot but not im thinking thats not such a good idea! I hope my baby is ok :( anyone have an opinion on what it might be?? (he is 5 months and has all his shots etc) |
p.s. he also has some stinky stinky gas...whats wrong with my baby! |
Hi, I hope you aren't allowing him to eat anything unsupervised. They tend to wolf down anything they can get to food or not. He probably has gotten it out of his system by now but forsure keep the appt. Young Yorkies can't have alot of the puppy treats out there because of age or weight limits so be careful what he is given. Good Luck..... SHaron |
You might want to hold all food until he sees the vet nad just allow H2O, but don't force it, it will give his tummy a rest if he dosen't eat and he won't starve by tomorrow.. I've had Yorkies for 32 yrs as pets and we have been there done that over the yrs...lol.. Sharon |
thanks. yeah i read online to withhold food so thats what Im doing. i cant think of anything he could have eaten besides his food unless he gobbled something up on his walk , ahhh just makes me nervous because he is my first yorkie baby and dont want anything to go wrong! |
It would not be safe to withhold food from a 5 month old Yorkie unless you are giving sugar (Nutrical, etc.). If he isn't 100% better by tomorrow, he shouldn't get any vaccines. Because he is so young, you may want to call the vet. Some vets want to see pups if they vomit even once. Are his gums pink? |
If the vomiting continues, I'd get him to the vet today. If he has stopped and doesn't vomit again, I'd make sure he's drinking water and give him some nutrical every few hours to give his tummy a rest. If he gets lethargic or shows other signs of being sick or hypoglycemic, get him to the vet. If he seems perfectly fine later today, I'd even offer him food and see how it goes. It could just be a complete fluke. The gas makes me think he has tummy upset, but it could be caused by any number of things, and it could easily clear up on its own. Vomiting is not uncommon. I also have a 5 month old, and we have been through far too many vomiting episodes! The first time it was a random virus, and she had to be hospitalized for fluids. Most recently, she swallowed a pebble and it got stuck in her stomach. So please don't take any chances if he continues to vomit, won't drink, or refuses nutrical or otherwise just seems "off." |
thanks everyone :) i called the vet today and she said to cancel the vaccination for now and to just watch him and if he continues to vomit through out the day to call back and make an appt for an exam. she also said to give him rice and cottage cheese. but other than the throwing up he is acting perfectly fine, no lethargy or anything. hopefully thats a good sign  |
My Bently is sending your Bentley good wishes for a quick recovery. John |
