Limping I'm getting really scared. Miles was playing with my boyfriend's dog (a Lhasa Apso) earlier today. They play all the time, and the other dog is pretty laid back, and they never play too rough or anything. But since my bf and his dog left a couple hours ago, Miles has just been laying down. I thought he was just tired. But when he got up about 20 minutes ago, I noticed that he was limping, and it's hard to tell which paw he's favoring. He's not whining or anything, but he just keeps laying down. My first instinct is to run to the emergency vet to see what's wrong. Should I go right away, or wait a day and see what happens? I really don't want him to be in pain, and I'm so scared about what could be wrong. |
How old is you pup? Does he react when you touch him? Did you check his pads? At firest I thought he might just be tired. But, tired wouldn't make him limp. Do you think he's in pain? If so, I'd see the vet. |
Try to touch his legs and feet. If he is haveing any discomfort he will let you know and I would take him to the er vet. Another test is they say dogs will not eat when stressed try to give a treat and see if he takes it again if not take to er vet. Then again if he does well with both these tests and you still are uneasy take him. You know your puppy better than anyone else. Keep us posted. |
He'll be a year old in a couple weeks. I checked his pads to make sure there was nothing in them. I've tried pressing on places on each of his legs to see if he'll react, but he doesn't whine or pull away at all. I still can't tell exactly which leg he's favoring, and I hate to keep making him walk. Would it be possible for him to have sprained something, and maybe it'll go away? Just wishful thinking. Is he old enough to have knee or joint problems? I just can't imagine they would come on this quickly. He was fine until today, and then it started. I just don't know what to do. |
Okay, I tried giving him a treat, and he gobbled it right up. He also stood on his back legs begging for it, so I'm fairly sure it's not one of the back legs that's hurting him. I did notice when I made him sit that he lifted his front left paw for a couple seconds, so that's probably the one. Again, I tried pressing on it in various places, and moving it around a little bit, and he didn't whine or anything. But he's still limping just as badly. I'm freaking out. :( |
Don't freak, I know easier said than done. Is he still just wanting to lie down or is he showing more signs of moving around. If he is moving around more and basically acting normal except for the limp I might opt to wait untill the morning and just bring him to his regualr Vet. I know you are not supposed to do this but I have so Here goes do with my advise as you like. In an emergency I would not call the vet first and have them give me an appointment later in the day or in the week, I just show up first thing in the morning they are more likely not to blow you off if you are in front of them. |
