Things just don't seem right Yesterday started out just fine. The weather was very nice so we had Roxie outside and she was loving it. Then it happened, she came in contact with a bush of burrs. I swear those things just reach out and grab her. She had a pretty good mess of them. I picked her up and brought her in to remove them. I usually wet them down and lather them with Roxies conditioner which really helps. I got them all out without having to shave her down. It went pretty well and I was very gentle. Ever since Roxie has been acting very strange. She threw up a couple of times last night, it was just clear foamy stuff or nothing at all. Anything that she would normally gobble up she would just let lay on floor. She kept running back to my room in this fast paced mode with her head down low. Her nose is still cold and wet. She did come to bed with us and I massaged her all over and her belly felt kind of hard to me. This morning her belly doesn't seem as hard but she is still just not acting right. She's not her perky self at all. It's almost like a cowering behaviour but she's not scared more like she just doesn't feel well. I have also noticed shivvering at times. I'm at a loss, anyone have anything? I'm really thinking of taking her to the vet but it's a hard call. |
Hi, I would take her to the vet just to make sure she does not have a burr stuck in her nose or throat. My bull dog used to get them in his nose and ears from playing in my grandmothers field when I was a kid. I would take her to be checked out just to be sure. |
That could be it since she was trying to pick them off of herself she could have swallowed one or some. She acts like she wants to eat this morning and will only do a few small bites and then stop. I think I'll take her in, better safe then sorry. Thank you for your reply! :animal-pa |
Yes, I think that would be a good idea. Those darn burrs can be dangerous specially if they get into there ears. |
Hope she is going to alright. |
Did you check her mouth? Clarence has tried to groom them off of himself & has gotten them stuck in his mouth. |
I hope your little one is ok:)I would take her in just in case!Better to be safe than sorry:D |
Any update on Roxie? I hope she's alright!! Prince's mom |
Hope Roxie is ok. My sister's big dogs get in to burrs on her property and the one tries to get them off and eats some and then throws up. Hopefully your baby is feeling better now. |
Checking for an update. Hope she is okay |
Update Sorry for the delay we've had a busy day. I did call the vet and let them know the situation. Of course by the time I called Roxie had started perking up and seemed alot better. So we made the decision to watch her closely and if things changed I would take her in. While she seems better I can still tell that she's not her 100% self. She's been sleeping on me all evening although last night she really didn't want to snuggle or seem as relaxed as now. Something really bothering me is that her breath is even more stinky then usual. I mean like rotten meat stinky. Also she's normally a very licky little dog and just loves to give kisses but she's not been doing any of that. I really think I'd feel so much better to just take her in as soon as they open on Monday and have her looked at. If it's something I feel can't wait untill Monday I'm going to take her to the University of Illinois vet hospital which is the best place for any reason big or small. She does eat but her appetite isn't as big as it should be. I'm kind of nervous and keeping a close eye on her. Thank you all so much for your replies and support. It's so nice to know there's a place to go when your really not sure what to do. |
I know this thread is from a while back, but what did the vet say happened? My Yorkie, Tim, was showing the same symptoms a few weeks ago, and the vet just gave him antibiotics. They are starting again, but this time I caught him eating a burr off of his fur. I have been cutting them out of his fur for weeks, and even before the first incident he was trying to pull them out himself. Could it just be from burrs? |
You may get more answers if you start another thread.... sounds like it may have been a blockage with the stinky breath and all.... I have no idea what a burr could do once inside... |
