Tia Can't Walk. Very Upet. Help Please. I just got in from work and my husband said that there was something wrong with Tia's back left leg. She cannot walk. He said nothing happened to her. She just started limping and now can't walk. She's had some trouble the past week where she stops and wants to be picked up and sometimes if you pick her up a certain way she'll cry a little and nip, but other times she is racing down the stairs with the others. I checked her and could not find anything wrong but it seems to be her hip? Not sure. She does not seem to be in pain, just can't walk. Does anyone know the dosage of a baby aspirin to give for a 3.5 lb dog? I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and get her in right away. I'm so very worried. She's young, just turned 3 yrs. old this month. Elaine |
Hope the vet finds out what's wrong, I'll keep her in my prayers. Sorry, I don't know the proper dosage for aspirin...I'm sure some one will know. |
Thank you for your post. Elaine |

I'm pretty sure 10mg/lb every 12 hours is the usual dose with aspirin. Hopefully you have baby aspirin 81mg... so you can give slightly less than half a tablet to get in the ballpark... just be careful and don't give too much. |
Since you mention it seems to be her....it could be legg perthes disease. This is degenerative bone disease where the hip bone holding the socket wears away. It's surgurically repaired....a new hip socket is fashioned out of a ligment to hold the leg in place. Biggest symptom for this is suddenly lameness or limping... Baby aspirin is 80 mg...the dosage for a dog it 5mg per pound. I hope she's okay.... |
I hope that the vet can tell you what is wrong. Keep us up dated!!!:confused::confused: |
thank you guys. Bchgal thanks I looked it up and sadly I think this is a good possibility. I am so so upset. I'm trying not to cry but it's not working too well. Elaine |
This is a good website to bookmark. It has the dosages for all the over the counter medications: OTC Medications Please take Tia to the vet tomorrow so you can find out what is causing her pain. |

It's hard not to get upset...but perhaps the vet gives you better news today. :) |
Thanks everyone for your replies. Miraculously early this morning she seemed to be her old self. I do still think there is an issue with her back left leg/hip though. I called the vet this morning and he's taking her in at 2:15 today. Please keep her in your prayers. Thanks again. Elaine |
Please keep us posted and prayers are in place.:) |
I will keep you in my prayers. |
Saying my prayers... |
We're Back From The Vet. I just got home from the vet. It was not her hip it is her knee. The vet diagnosed her with a Luxating Patella. At this point he is reccomending being conservative and watching but if it is ongoing for the next two weeks his reccomendation then will be surgery to repair it. He has done the surgery but not a lot and he said that the Orthos do them everyday so his reccomendation would be a referal to an ortho. He said that it moves freely in and out. She is not in any pain and today is running around and seems very happy and content in no distress. I'll keep everyone posted and thank you all so much. It was a very rough night. Elaine |
