Concerned Danny had his surgery to repair his femur bone due to Leggs Perthes on Tuesday. He came home Wednesday afternoon. We have been having a great deal of trouble getting him to eat and drink. I called the vet and they said he won't want to eat because of the pain patch but to watch the liquid intake. I have taken to using a syringe type thing to squirt water into his mouth. I am worried he'll dehydrate. Any suggestions? |
How about PediaLyte or even better PediaSure (contains protein I think)? Is he refusing canned food? |
He is refusing rice and chicken. I had read their tummies get upset after surgery. So, I made him rice and chicken. |

The anesthesia and pain meds could both be causing inappetance. Since he came home yesterday, I would want him to start eating and if he won't, I would go with something like PediaSure. At least you might be able to syringe some. |
The vets office said the pain patch would cause the lack of appetite. I have just been concerned about dehydration. I'll get some pediasure and try that. Thanks for the suggestion. |
