Pet Insurance??? Hi all! I am looking into pet insurance for Chloe. Can anyone recommend a good company? She does not have any medical problems. What all do I need to look for when comparing companies? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks! :) |
This is really hard. Every Ins. co. offers different coverage! You can probably go into search here for pet ins. and read some previous threads. I personally have Embrace. Good Luck! |
I have pets best from boise idaho, it was one of he top rated ones, vpi was not they pay different prices for different stuff, I cant remember the other good ones, I found the peper work , and pet first, pet plan and pet assure was the top rated plans. |
I have PetPlan insurance. It will cover all major problems as long as it is not diagnosed prior to getting the insurance. So, if a dog had a liver shunt and you took out the insurance before it was diagnosed, then the insurance will cover the surgery. It does cover hereditary problems if they have not been diagnosed with it. It does not cover vaccinations or regular check up. Different plans cover different things, so you just need to decide what you want coverage on and then find a plan that will fit it. |
Thank you! All of you have given wonderful suggestions. I am going to check into both companies and see which one offers the better coverage. Thanks for the suggestions! |
If she's under a year of age, Trupanion is really top-notch. They cover almost everything if the dog is under a year old when they're signed up. |

I have VPI insurance---it is just OK. My yorkie girl was diagnosed with a liver shunt and once they realized what all the diagnostic tests were for they STOPPED paying! She now needs surgery to correct the shunt and VPI will not pay a dime as they do not pay for anything that is considered congenital. To date I have incurred $2650 in medical expenses and that is before the liver shunt surgery which is scheduled or June. Surgery will be aproximately another $3000. NOTHING will be covered by VPI. I am assuming otheer pet insurances work the same way. What a rip off! BEWARE! |
Different pet insurance companies cover different things, and some focus on wellness visits and vaccines and such, while others just cover injuries and illnesses. I think the ones that focus more on injury and illness are the better deal-- anyone can budget for yearly visits and vaccinations, but emergency surgeries and cataclysmic illnesses are another story. Trupanion's website has a nice gadget that you can use to compare different insurance plans. Compare Pet Insurance Companies | Why Trupanion | Trupanion Pet Insurance |

Yep! I had VPI as well and cancelled it! Did not cover Teddi's liver shunt or really anthing else I've never need them to cover! |
Did R &T, Did you ever replace it with another insurance? If so did/will they cover pre existing conditions? My daughter's yorkie boy has trouble with his kidneys ----VPI will not cover his expenses. She has spent thousands on hospitalizations and treatments. He is better now but still needs to be watched. |
