Legg Perthes Disease and Aggression Hi. I am new to the board. I have a 12 month old Yorkie. About a week ago he was diagnosed with Legg Perthes disease and is scheduled for surgery Tuesday. This evening, I went to pick him up and he ran. Not thinking, I grabbed his hind quarters. He immediately turned around and became vicious. He bit my finger and grabbed my pant's leg. He would not back down until I had enough sense to yell "Sit" repeatedly. Can the pain make him this aggressive??? I am terrified. I can't have an animal that bites and is aggressive but he is my baby......:(:( |
He's in Pain Mom... |
I know he is but he was so vicious. He tore my cuticle and my finger is swollen. He won't even come near me now. I just pray that he returns to my loveable little ball of energy after the surgery. I am so scared.:( |
Sorry but what if you had a broken leg and I grabbed it...you would bite toooo...poor little guy is in pain. I have had a number of friends have the same surgery for their little dudes and they went back to their sweet self. You also need to understand fear aggression in these dogs. |
i don't blame him for biting you. Do you know how much pain he is in? his bones are basically disintegrating/falling apart and you grabbed him in the wrong spot. of course he bit you. think of it this way, if you just broke your arm and someone grabbed you by the hand and pulled it don't you think you'd do anything possible to get that person to let go. after surgery he'll be fine. |
He is in pain and terrified. He does not know why he hurts and you did grab him, so he is probably thinking you hurt him. Just give him space and don't try to pick him up for now. After the surgery, when he is feeling better, I am quite sure he will be fine! |
