Pippi is "coughing" - need help? Pippi, my Mini Dachshund, has been making a coughing noise for the past few hours now. It's almost like she is trying to hack something up - sort of like a cat would make a hacking noise if it had a hairball. I don't think she is feeling well either because she isn't acting as hyper as she normally does. She also had a tiny bit of loose, runny stool - but not alot. She wouldn't eat her dry food so I gave her some canned food and she gobbled it up. Tomorrow I am going to go get some chicken breast and rice and give her that since it is easier on the stomach. I took a video of her so that you all can see the noise that she is making. Sorry that the video is so dark, but I had to move her out into the garage because Stedman wouldn't leave her alone. The noise she is making drives him crazy. Excuse the garage floor - we have been panting and there is white (dried) paint everywhere...we still have to re-paint the garage floor itself. Anyway, here is the video: Pippi 2/25/09 at One True Media - share slideshows, slide shows, MySpace slideshows, MySpace codes, free video sharing, video montages. - I am wondering if I should try and induce vomiting with Hydrogen Peroxide? I know you aren't supposed to induce if there is a sharp object that is lodged, but I honestly do not think there is. She hasn't eaten anything like that - I just don't know what could cause her to be making this awful hacking noise? I feel so terrible and want to help her  |
Is her abdomen swollen or painful? Is she trying to vomit and is anything coming up? Is she salivating more than normal? It almost sounds like something is stuck in her throat... Or do you think it's more respiratory?? |
Awwwww poor baby, she almost looks uncomfortable too the way she is up and down and up and down. How is she now???? I don't have any advice, but yeah, that doesn't sound good., and I hope she is feeling better soon!!! |

I induced vomiting at 8:30 this morning and she threw up 3 times, then about 25 minutes later she threw up 2 or 3 more times. The only thing that showed up when she vomited was (whole) pieces of the tiny little Natural Balance Small Bites kibbles. The rest was just white foam. There were no sticks or anything odd that I saw in the vomit. The second time she threw up it was just clear - obviously because there was nothing left in her stomach. She seems to be doing ok so far - but I will keep an eye on her for the rest of the day and if she starts hacking/coughing again I will be taking her in for the vet to examine her. |
Any way she could have been exposed to kennel cough Brooke? Poor Pippi! I didn't know you had a doxie! They are so super cute :) |
Could be something as simple As a tiny crumb scratched or got stuck to her throat. I hope she feel's better. |

There really is no way that she could have been exposed to kennel cough as she has just been here with us as always. She hasn't been out anywhere around other dogs other than Stedman and Tatum and my other dog, Peaches, and they are all fine. She hasn't made the coughing/hacking noise anymore, so I am hoping that when I induced vomiting this morning, it helped somehow. She has just been laying down and resting in her little pink bed :) |

I just hope she continues to do well throughout the rest of the day - I am keeping my fingers crossed :xfingers: |
Update! Just wanted to do a quick update. Little Miss Pippi is doing WELL! :D Woohoo!! She hasn't hacked or coughed ONE TIME since I induced vomiting at 8:30 this morning - GO PIPPI!!! :cheer: She chowed down tonight and ate all her food :D Mommy is so proud and happy! The poor little weiner must have had a piece of food (or something else that I never even saw come up ) stuck somewhere. But all that matters is, it's gone now! WOOO! :D  |
Next time give alittle bread That's what i do when they swallow there food wrong. |
Can dogs get a cough from worms? |
Just seeing this and am glad Pippi is ok. |
Macy does this sometimes at night, i so want to cry when she starts up. I end up sleeping in the livingroom with her worried to death! Could it be her kibbles choking her!? That makes me so sad :( |
